He can do very well at any of those places. When is the last time St. Mary's got a top-tier local kid straight out of high school??? I like UCSB though...

Ucsb is way better fit then st.mary's. St. Mary's likes big guards and already have a red shirt freshman playing guard. At UCSB he may be playing from day 1. Ucsb is a good division and are playing all the PAC 12 teams this year. Lost to Kansas last year by 10 or 12. And they have put kids in the league an over sees.

Finally a list that makes sense! Gabe Vincent is going off for UCSB btw. Good for Ford.
St mary's likes big guards??? Delladova I think is around 6"2. He does have thickness. Ford will be fine. CAL is not a good fit for him. He will play day 1 at either UCSB or St Marys.

Delly is an exception being 6"4 and very strong, but St Marys has seen small guards primarily as of recently. Transfer from stanford and Keary Collins both being 5"10 or 5"11, Patty Mills 6"1, McConnel 5"10/5"11, etc... That being said they are in need of a shooter at the point (could not shoot at all last year) and he could be the answer to a lot of problems for them. Would love to see him stay local but might prosper more at a UCSB or Oregon State. Best of luck to him.

Sports 09- UCSB actually plays in the Big West. They did not not play all the Pac 12 teams last year. They played Washington St (in a tournament), Oregon & Oregon St. Not the top tier teams. Jordan Ford is a high level kid, if he holds on he will get a higher level scholarship.

Why would you hold on? That means you are not the school's first choice. I know UCSB is in big west but they love to beat up on the PAC 12 teams. Other then Arizona all PAC 12 teams are beatable by UCSB. And location, location, location.

Sports 09: I agree great location. Last year was the first ever appearance for UCSB in the NCAA Tournament. Not sure what your referring to about beating Pac 12 teams, they were not even beating up on all the league teams. UC Davis won league last year. Yes UC Davis. They need to concentrate on beating Big West teams. Are guarantee you, they are not favored to win league this year.

St Mary's has the Gonzaga curse. No way do they get 2 teams in from WCC. Zags are a virtual lock year in and out for the WCC title. But St Mary's is a great school and has put guys in the NBA and Europe. Oregon State… Fun school and great college town but hoops are low level Pac 12. Very low. I like UCSB. Bob Williams is a Davis guy and solid coach. Gabe Vincent had a great year as a Frosh and a bright future.

Larry Legend: Correct me if Im wrong. BYU is in the WCC. They along with Gonzaga were in the Tournament last year.

Yeah BYU is. Totally forgot about them. They are usually tough with 24 and 25 year old men.

UCSB did not go to the NCAA last year. UCI went. The Gauchos have been to the big dance five times. Let's get our facts straight. UCSB is a good program. They have five pac12 teams on their schedule this season including Cal. I saw UCSB beat Cal two years ago in SB and that was a Tourney team that beat Arizona on Cobbs buzzer beater. The Gauchos win over Cal was NO fluke. Ford will be a nice addition but he will have to earn PT. there is talent there. Marginal differences in high major and top mud major teams.

StillABear1: You are correct. But as I mentioned we are talking about a team in which UC Davis won the league. Yes teams from low level leagues will always take high major's to the wire when they play them in any sport. Why? Do you really think the kids on the Cal team were worried about losing to UCSB? Do you think they took the same approach to that game as they did the night before they played Arizona? And yes this year they are playing 5 Pac 12 teams which = a big pay day. Big schools pay smaller schools to play them. Known fact. My point here is lets promote and get our talented NorCal kids on the big stage where they belong. Tired of seeing less talented East coast kids getting all the hype just because of where they live. Ford belongs at a high major school.

I saw Ford in Vegas against real Elite players and he is NOT a high major recruit IMO. His list suits him well if he wants to get on the court.

I also saw Jordan Ford in n Vegas and I have to agree he is not a high major recruit. The size factor alone makes me pause to put him in that category.

Agree with you guys. His list is good. He will see the court. Big time high major BBALL IQ though. He's not the 6"4 combo guard with a 40 inch vert that the Kansas, Ohio St, Louisvilles, Dukes, UK, etc are looking for. Just not the tools he was given. Doesn't mean he won't be a huge success on a lower level. Steph Curry wasn't those things either.

Also agree, good list tho because he is not older then he should be, he still has much upward potential can get stronger , heard he is improving his shooting form etc, wouldn't be surprised to see him make a big impact at one of those schools

Yeah BYU is. Totally forgot about them. They are usually tough with 24 and 25 year old men.
Larry, to give you more clarity about BYU, yes the players are usually a bit older because of time missed due to missions. While on these missions, they are not dedicated to athletics as I do work with a few mormons who used to be collegiate athletes. They said they were only allow to practice 1 hour every week while on missions. If youre an athlete and only have 1 hour of practice a week, your skills likely are not going to improve without frequent repetition. So yes, older, but not as skilled as the kids that play and practice more on a weekly basis.

I would have to go to CAL and get that degree! He may wind up playing pro ball somewhere overseas, but I would take that Berkeley degree for future use.

Its not where you got your degree its what you do with the one you got! St Mary's has there share of successful people as does UCSB. Ford wants to play day 1. With CAL very much on the national map I just see them going after 4-5 star blue chippers and Cuonzo is smart enough to toss a local offer here and there. Just happened to be that Rabb and Frayer are both 4 and 5 star guys. That doesn't happen every year in Norcal.

Cal is a great education, but if I can still obtain a degree for free from another institution , and play the game I love ,it doesn't matter where you graduate from. By the way is the Frayer kid a 4 star? I saw him in Vegas and it was disappointing because there was no growth in his game, whereas I also got a chance to see the Peters kid from the Soldiers blue team and he and the tall point guard were downright impressive but you here nothing about them.

Im sorry, but that CAL degree holds weight over here in Silicon Valley depending on what his major would be. Your saying you would take a St Marys degree over CAL to play more? Priorities....

Do you guys honestly think that Rabb or Oscar will stay and get degrees from Cal? Never going to happen!

The Cal degree does hold a lot of weight, but it's about fit. Jordan Ford fits best at a Mid Major and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Who knows he may be able to play overseas as a result of getting a chance to play significant minutes.

IMO Ford can play at the highest level if the ball is in his hands. I say this because of his Rocky- style work ethic and his desire to get stronger and more athletic. Also, I believe that teams run better with a smart and unselfish PG calling the shots; and that's where Ford shines. But, Ford can't choose just any school at any level if he is going to maximize his personal basketball and academic success. His choice has to match his personal ambitions, which only he knows. Any interruption to Fords playing time and development is a disaster....and must be avoided at all cost. This year with the Soldiers, it looked like Ford played more of a 2-guard because the team sorely needed a perimeter shooter. But IMO Ford is a PG who needs to play as a freshman and needs to play only one position...The Point. Don't be surprised if Ford arrives at college as the team's best shooter, passer, ball-handler, and most highly conditioned on opening day.

I'm intrigued by Ford's three selections because they all represent 3 different levels of play. So what is the common denominator? I suspect Ford will choose the program that will have the highest demand for his talent and secondly, be at the highest level of competition. Also, IMO a prerequisite for Ford is that the program has to have a chance to make the Tournament consistently during his tenure. Anyone who knows Ford understands that his goal is to win, and he wants to win championships.

To answer a few questions.
No I don't believe Rabb or Frayer or most of the kids at CAL will stay and earn degree. The stats on grad rates for Football and Basketball are awful at CAL. Pathetic really so lets not throw that card out there. But Rabb is a future lottery pick and I don't see Frayer in that same class. So that dimension changes things a lot. Rabb is done after 1 year. No doubt.

Ford is a smart kid on and off the court. I would not be surprised to see him go to UCSB. The gauchos have had a lot of successful norcal players. Heck there are a handful on the current roster making valuable contributions.

I would go to Oregon state! They need a point guard like him and he would be playing at a very high level. Why would you lower yourself and go UCSB? Even the wcc, go pac12 my man.. At least, look at the stats? PAC 12 puts the second amount of guys in the league. First is the ACC.

These generalities and speculation is kind of comical. I mean if the kid wants to be a marine biologist in NOr Cal when he is done with hoops than he should probably go to CSU Monterey Bay or UC Santa Cruz, right?. This whole thread is actually amusing to me as you all decide what is the best school for this kid and question his motives without knowing squat about what his motives or desires are or his family or other influences. Silly.
And then for someone to say that he does not have his priorities straight because he would choose St. Mary's over Cal. Reasoni being that a Cal degree "holds weight" in Silicon Valley. Cmon. That is just stupid.

Exactly. So tired of hearing about how great of a school CAL is for athletes. When is the last time a norcal athlete went there because of there engineering, physics, or computer science program? I'm going to go out on a limb and say probably a couple walk ons here and there and that is it. I have plenty of friends from Oregon State, UCSB, and St Mary's who live a pretty nice lifestyle.

As for where Ford goes I think its just part of the board to get people to talk. There really isn't anything wrong with that. Some it could be an alumni thing or some plain comical. Who knows. A few months ago a pretty low level 3 star QB from Oak Ridge was going to WSU. Out of the blue Notre Dame comes knocking. Stranger things have happened.

When was the last time Oregon State was relevant in hoops? Last time they made the tourney?

That is what a thread is for. To voice OPINIONS. At the end of the day his decision wont pay any of my bills! Lol. I just think CAL would be a good fit academically and basketball wise. He can play at the PAC 12 level in my eyes. It would be nice to see all the norcal kids represent on TV for the next couple of years. Well one for Rabb.

Go where they want you, and where you can play!! Cal recently ramped up their recruiting of the point guard for Mac Irvin Fire and rumor has it that they are really using Jerome Randall as a Chicago Connection. So that could have came into play. There is a reason why mid majors nationwide are playing into the later rounds of the ncaa tournament. Players like Ford are playing at that level instead of being the 8th-10th guy at a high major. Kids are deciding they want to play often and sooner than later.
