Am I the only one that misses SanFranPreps?

By Jeremy Balin? He was great. I really miss him and his SF high school reporting that now shamefully goes relatively unreported among Bay Area communities.

He made a tremendous effort to objectively cover not only WCAL, but BCL, AAA in all sports. Yes, very much missed.

In lite of no Jeremy Balin and having seen most San Francisco team play at least once to date... here is my ranking of San Francisco teams going into respective league seasons:

1. St. Ignatius - playing best ball going into league season
2. Mission - other than lopsided loss to S.I. playing strong with 3 starters coming back in January
3. University - always a competitive schedule, ahead of Riordan by virtue of win; behind Mission by virtue of loss.
4. Riordan - quality wins over St. Mary and MV
5. SHC- relatively unknown quantity by virtue of no home schedule. Lost badly to MV.
6. Urban - good schedule with only blimp in tight game v. University
7. Stuart Hall - hot and cold, heading into league with consecutive losses.
8. Lick Wilmerding- flying under the radar, will know more once league starts
9. Gateway-will not be tested in their BCL division
10. Pick a AAA team

this is purely off of one-two games observed and common opponents. will be more refined as season progresses. What I have noticed is (other than Mission) big drop-off in AAA this year, BCL will be fun to watch, and unknown what kind of dent SF WCAL schools will make in league, but none will be pushovers.

SHC is ranked too low, SI too high, Mission too high.
What is your observation based upon. Mine is purely on observation and common opponent to date this season. SI beat Mission; Mission beat University; University beat Riordan, Riordan beat Monte Vista, and SHC lost to Monte Vista. SHC is the enigma here as they did not have any quality wins and shown little continuity to date. Again this will be weened out by end of week two in league.

SI really played a soft schedule...although any team can probably beat any team on any given night. SI isn't even ranked in the Chronicle top teams by Mitch Stephens....However, Bellarmine is ranked # 9? and Riordan ranked # 20? It will be weened out by week 2. San Jose Mercury rankings are a little more realistic, I think.

I cant argue with you on their schedule. However, their schedule did allow them to find some cohesion going into league. Beating Bellarmine is a good start. Over the weekend I will come back with another City Top ten and I'm sure things will be different (I'm sure people wont sleep at night). : ) Again, not scientific, just eye-test. As I said before and you reiterated, after two weeks of league play we will have a clearer picture of ALL SF teams in WCAL, BCL and AAA. Have a good weekend.

SI getting better every game. Rob did an excellent job scheduling, knowing that he needed to bring team along slowly. He is one of the few coaches that is unafraid to make wholesale changes such as dramatically reducing Jack Coulter's time in favor of Darian Trammell. Will Emery coming along very nicely and I really like the sophomore Redmond.
