Seems strange. But lets not kid ourselves. Its JUCO football between 2 schools that are what 30 miles apart? There will be 87 people in the stands. Its not like you are going to play LSU in death valley.
There you go. Power rankings. It’s not a decision made by a committee. They take the 3 conference champs, and the at large team with the highest power ranking (Laney) to complete the 4 team field. Then the seedings are done strictly on power rankings. Laney has the 2nd highest power ranking, thus the #2 seed. At least it’s a formal structure and not someone playing favorites. CSM should be glad to be playing a team they have beaten and feel they are better than.
The only reason CSM is bothered is because Laney can actually beat them. I remember Laney being up 21-0 at half only to win 28-18. This means Laney won the second half 18-7 and that includes a missed field goal.
Other than that, this doesn't mean shit. If CSM and Butte win, CSM will still need to travel up north as they would if they were the #2 seed. If CSM wins and Fresno beats Butte, CSM will still host, as they would if they were the #2 seed.

Much love to College of San Mateo. I remember going to visit that school as a 12th grader and being so excited to go there. Then I remember my car breaking down on the 280 on my way home and opting to go to Laney instead because of how accessible the school was on BART.
