Any update on EBAL openers?

DLS 61 - SRV 40. 40 to 30 after 3, and DLS took it to them in the 4th. Rathino with 21.

Foothill 53 - Livermore 28. As expected. Cobb with 16.

MV 61 AV 40. AV subs outscored MV subs 14-9 in 4th to get within 21. Fadal with 21.

Cal 81 - Granada 59. The only real surprise here. Kwong with 21, Steigerwald 18. Cal at 8-4 is improved, but Granada may just be real down this year. Time will tell.

No surprises here in terms of results. Cal having an 8-4 record however is a surprise. I am assuming DLS played SR. Thanks for the update O22!

Interesting note is DLS did something similar to Serra in taking control and closing out the game in the fourth.

I was at SRV... Ugleee game for DLS. They must have missed a zillion layups, putbacks, and dunks, even when they took over in the 4th. The defense was there, though...

Also, it seemed like DLS was holding back... Something maybe they don't wanna show until they need it, maybe??

Then again, maybe there was a bit of complacency after they played all those powerhouses in Palm Springs last week.

Spartans are loaded. They are my pick to win Norcal open division. I do not believe there any teams in Northern California that can give them a battle.

Reports are that Asiasi is practicing. Can't wait until they play Monte Vista.

I'm been on there side all year. Not because I went to DLS or I love the fine institution it is but because I appreciate good basketball and kids that play hard/fundamental. This year they do that plus have some D1 kids. Scary combination. I look for them to run the table the rest of the year and win Norcal Open.

EBAL Game 2 Results from last night:

DLS 74 - Livermore 25. No surprise here. Ratinho 20.

AV 51 - SRV 47. SRV back to the pack after a magical season last year.

Foothill 49 - Cal 28. Foothill (12-2) up 24-5 at half and coasted with a balanced effort. Cobb 10, Allen 11, Wrenn 10.

MV 53 - Granada 39. No surprise here. LaShells 19.

Standings:
DLS, MV & Foothill all 2-0
AV & Cal 1-1
SRV, Livermore & Granada all 0-2

If DLS gets Asiasi back they are a lock for EBAL and NCS. Seen no one in EBAL that can compete with them. Saw them once in their tourney and they are playing great D, but much freer then under Alloco. Very strong. Now seen MV twice. They struggled against zone in Riordan game (heard same against Freedom). Everything runs thru Lashells and Fadal. Neither is strong against physical play. Jones really lets Fadal run show. He will force and does not make extra pass. No other options big part of offense.

Saw Foothill once. Playing hard for new coach. Cobb is very good. Good young PG and solid big. They may surprise.

What exactly do you mean by "...much freer than under Alloco?"

Alloco ran a tight shift and did great work as a coach so I don't get the subtle jab. Coaches are different and as such what you see is a change in coaching style and not an issue of freedom on the court. Almost all I read lately is criticism of players, coaches, teams, etc. Can we share our opinion without criticizing? Too many biases. SMH.

Personally, I think the Spartans did have a tendency to get a little tight and overly careful towards the end of the year with Allocco, at least in the years since I moved back here in the fall of 2012. Not blaming Allocco *or* the kids *or* the environment at DLS, it's just what I observed.

Of course, Allocco won three state titles in the past with other kids, so I'm certainly not saying he causes the "problem" I perceived. No way I can tell that without being at every practice and every game, and even then I can't say, since I didn't play ball myself. Loved the game then as I do now, but I had zero athletic ability.

Maybe this "thing" I see will change with Kuhne or in future years with other kids, or maybe not... Only time will tell.

Meant that DLS seems to be looking to push the ball more than in previous years. Not meant to be a dig at previous coach. Just noticed a change in style that seems to be working well for team.

Thanks for the clarification bluedevil92.

I do agree that there is a change in style. As with all new coaches, there is always a vision, coaching style, expectations and long term planning. As Kiddman32 rightly said, "only time will tell."

When I saw MV I thought Fadal played well. 20 plus points and 6 plus assists. I actually winced when he passed up open looks to eat the clock. I think he is a work in progress and now that he has some pg time he has a shot at developing into more of a floor general. MV has a good sixth man who can get hot but I agree w the comment that much of the offense runs through LaShells. He doesn't have much meat on him but he is athletic.

I see DLS as a lock for EBAL and NCS even if Asiasi doesn't come back. He could make a huge difference come the NorCal Open playoffs though.
