The Mariners, one of the most consistent and strongest public school football programs on the Santa Cruz/Monterey coast, are scheduled to play Mills of Millbrae on Aug. 27. The Vikings could not field a team this past spring due to a serious lack of players. So the question becomes: Will that game actually be played or will it become a scrimmage or called off altogether?

Should be an interesting game. I heard Mills has a decent turnout of talent in the high teens. Assuming Aptos has a unreal team this year, the game should be within 70.
Aptos returns alot and good QB although tough to say based on last years schedule how well they will o in league. Should be in top 4 in league. Palma, Salinas and Hollister will round out the top 4.
Surprised Aptos would waste their time scheduling this game in the first place ? Even if Mills had a varsity team it’s still a running clock game after 2-3 minutes
How about Aptos/ McClymonds on the 27th?
In today's SM Daily Journal, it was noted that Mills has indicated it will field a varsity this season. That would seem to imply that, yes, the Aug. 27 mismatch may well be played. Brace yourself.
Not good for either program if it happens. As others have said- a complete mismatch.
It will be like a scrimmage. I'm sure Aptos will just work on execution and let younger players get experience. Won't prepare them for Campo, but looks like Campo is down and they play Palma after. PCAL Gab championship could be determined early with Aptos playing Palma and then Salinas in 3rd and 4th games if they win both. These should be good games in any event. Early in the season Hollister plays Wilcox, Palma against lower tier WCAL teams (Mitty and SHC) and Salinas against Half Moon Bay (who plays Serra) and Placer which could give an indication of strength of the PCAL Gab.
