If you take out the SFL and WCAL, what are the best leagues in NorCal as we transition more fully into league play?
With Lathrop and Weston Ranch leaving the VOL has no weak teams. Of course you have the standard big 3. But in most years other teams play well.Off the top of my head, clearly BVAL and EBAL have to be up there, along with the VOL.
Rancho, CN, Windsor, MC, San Marin, Monty and Redwood would be nice for footballThere have been years where the NBL with rancho , newman , and Windsor were all top 25 norcal teams. But the bottom half of league is atrocious. An all football league combined with best MCAL would be great.
Next year NBL may be Newman, Rancho Windsor, Vintage, Marin Catholic. They are splitting NBL, VVAL, MCAL into 4 football leaguesThere have been years where the NBL with rancho , newman , and Windsor were all top 25 norcal teams. But the bottom half of league is atrocious. An all football league combined with best MCAL would be great.
Or add Palma, Sacred Heart Prep, Menlo and King's Academy to a new, expanded, two-tier WCAL.PCAL Gabilan has the "Big Four" of Salinas, Palma, Hollister and Aptos. But after that there is usually a pretty big drop off to he 5th place team. It is always tough for the small to mid size schools to sustain success in that league. Schools like, Carmel, Seaside, MVC and Alisal are always going back and forth because they cant compete with the big 4 on a annual basis.
PCAL and BVAL should take top 4 Gabilan and top 4 Mt. Hamilton and make a "super division" for football only. Salinas, Palma, Hollister, Aptos, Christopher, Lincoln, Live Oak and Oak Grove (Maybe not this year) would be a much more competitive division. Or somehow incorporate the top of the WCAL, Serra, St. Francis. Bellarmine, VC into 2 A leagues.
Might be to far for Palma to do fairly.Or add Palma, Sacred Heart Prep, Menlo and King's Academy to a new, expanded, two-tier WCAL.
