Cloves West reminds of Pinewood with there 3 point shooting but a little bit taller. They 2÷2÷1 press is great the first to quarters but the last to they are on the little tried side. They 9 deep with diffevent specialist that come of the bench for certain looks the want to through at you. But remember teams always to we'll at hone let's see how it is on the road that will prove if they are real or not 1 of the best in CA.
I think it's fair to say they are one of the best in California no doubt. But they are beatable. Brookside and Carondelet could have both played better games which could have made it closer. Better teams will give Clovis West more of a challenge which will test them. If I remember correctly Carondelet open up with a small lead and if they could have maintained it perhaps the pressure of playing from behind or in a closer game would have made the 3's not go in as easily? But with the stroke and confidence I saw on their shots, it's hard to say.(correction Carondelet never led) Clovis West definitely played well, but they did have everything flowing in their favor which made it a bit easier for them. They won't be able to select the refs, play on their own court, and organize the brackets in tournaments on the road. Having Carondelet battle big Oakridge just a few hours before wasn't an advantage for Carondelet that's for certain.
Those things helped, and Brookside and Carondelet and everyone else in the tournament are not quite on the level of experience, chemistry, and confidence with Clovis West, at least at this stage of the season. Nor did either seem to be at 100 % with a few banged up players dressed in street clothes. While Clovis West appeared 100 % heathy. Not that that would have mattered, but may have helped a little. Brookside battled with only 6 players. I think it's fair to say Carondelet and Brookside would have had to play an almost perfect game to put up a challenge under the circumstance. Neither played anywhere near close to perfect. Their not as good as Clovis West all things considered. They were rightfully the under dogs. And neither played their best games. When you play a team as good as Clovis West in their own tournament you have to be hitting on all cylinders especially when you are not quite on their level which was obviously the case.
I was impressed with the way Clovis West played and the way they were coached. They scouted, prepared, and game planned well. They did exactly what they needed to do and were expected to do under all the circumstances. But the next two tournaments will definitely test them because they will play teams that are already on their level. Not teams searching for their confidence, experience, and identity, as was the case.
I thought it was worth the ticket to see Clovis West play. And think a few players who played in the tournament and against them will become better players because of the experience. As I have said, playing with and against better players and better coaches makes you better in time. Experience and good coaching is what made Clovis West better. They made it a habit of scrimmaging and playing St. Mary's of Stockton as much as they could the past couple of seasons. That helped them learn to play at higher speed, intensity, and higher challenging levels, which increased their knowledge, experience, toughness, and confidence.
The Pinewood comparison in terms of the 3 point shooting and suburb coaching was accurate. But I think Clovis West has a bit more size, depth, and experience than Pinewood had last season and this season as well. This season is going to be the best chance Clovis West has at being one of the best in the nation. They won't be fortunate to be as stacked next season or in the foreseeable future. Good luck to them this season. They are a class act and represent their coach, families, and their school well.
