I’m bored waiting for my next work meeting to start.

CalPreps has a pretty cool feature which allows you to project matchups between teams regardless of year and state. Many say CalPreps is pretty damn accurate. In fact, I’ve heard the CCS relies on it heavy in determining classifications for non-league opponents.

anyways.....

2008 Grant Pacers (Sacramento) - 26
2019 Central Grizzlies (Fresno) - 42

I'd have bet on that 1st match up not happening that way.

I'm conflicted on the 2nd one. The eras are much further apart. The styles much different. DJ Williams graduated.

Still, I don't see that DLS team surrendering 56. Even if they had difficulty with the diverse MD offense, I think their physical rush attack would burn a lot of clock.

I'd foresee more of a 28-21 type of game. Pick your winner.

Agreed. That Grant team was enormous and physical as all hell. Their QB, Kipeli Koneseti, was a Division 1 OLB for crying out loud. I feel they had the athleticism to match up with Central’s offense plus the the physicality to wear their defense down.

As far as DLS, I’d have to do more research but I feel that ‘01 team was more complete across the board than the DJ Williams teams. That said, I don’t see Mater Dei running the ball at will on Derek Landri, DJ Williams and Kevin Simon so you may have a point with that ‘00 team. Unfortunately, CalPreps’ project a match up feature only goes as far back as ‘01.

You’d have to get the pulse from the old school DLS crowd, but IIRC the ‘98 team is held in very high regard. As a DLS top 3 all-time team.

I’d rank that team among their best, but I’m nowhere near as qualified a DLS historian as others.

No way does that grant team lose to central. Oak ridge took them to the wire in 2019 and wasn’t nearly as good as grant.
You must be bored!

Your reading comprehension skills need work Larry! He clearly stated that was the CalPreps prediction on their "Predict a matchup" portal.

My skills are fine. I would have never posted that nonsense. But he did say he was bored. If you saw all the teams play my comment would make more sense.

Have to agree. Grant would have dominated the LOS imo, and they had the perimeter speed to match Central

I don’t think Central beats any of Grant Union’s teams from 2006, 2008, 2009, or 2010. Not when fully healthy.

I think 2006, 2009 and 2010 were better than 2008 in some regards.

2008 gets a lot of recognition because they beat the PAC5 champ and won the Open State title. But 2006 didn’t get the same opportunity due to the 1st year State playoff system in place. Who knows what that team might have accomplished? They were every bit as good as the 2008 team.

2009 beat WA State Champ Bellevue in Seattle and only lost to a Rocklin team that had an elite QB and RB. Even then Rocklin only scored 21 points and it took a goal line stand and a missed 20 yd FG to beat the Pacers. If those teams played 10 games, I believe GHS probably wins 7 or 8. This coming from a guy coaching in the Rocklin program at the time.

2010 was arguably their best of the bunch. Defensively they were lights out. But they weren’t healthy at the end of the season, and had numerous key injuries. Even then it took a Folsom team with a dual threat QB that won Nat’l Player of the Year to take advantage of those key injures. When those same 2 teams played at full strength early in the season, Folsom couldn’t compete.

All 4 of those Pacers teams were good enough to win State. One did, one never got the opportunity, and the other 2 suffered from bad luck at the worst time.

We were in the game! CalPreps says 2001 De La Salle - 48 and 2009 Carmel High - 21. I heard we were up by a score at the half but ran out of steam in the second half. And that was on a neutral field. Imagine what would have happened if we played them at home!
