First you have to graduate. So, if you are short credits then you won't be able to do it. UCLA and Cal have very stringent requirements to get int5o their schools. Still, people do come a semester early if they meet the requirements. Usually they are football players. If this was a normal year, their high schools would still be playing.

I think a lot depends on whether you want to finish high school early and miss your final semester. It seems like there will be high school graduations and such this spring, so many might want to enjoy the experience rather than rush off to the anonymity of on-line college. And of course if the college season winds up being cancelled or severely truncated, there might be no advantage gained at all.

I think this makes a lot of sense if you can because this season doesn't count for eligibility.

It also works if you college choice is more local.
