The local media may have forgotten Cardinal Newman is in their county. Big article on Montgomery finishing 2nd in league this year. Cardinal Newman has arguably played the most challenging schedule in North Bay history, they are sitting at 23-3 with a 55 game league winning streak(61-1 in last 4 years in league). Pretty impressive. League tournament starts next week. It will be interesting to see how the Press Democrat covers it.

Montgomery is an interesting team. Aside from a close loss to Ukiah, a team they beat handily the first time around, their other losses are by large margins (two to Cardinal Newman, one to Miramonte and one to Davis). But the bottom line is wins and losses and 21-5 is pretty good ...

Still, CN is clearly the best team in the area, but maybe the Press Democrat folks wanted to write about a public school or a surprise team or whatever. Let's say, for example, that the editors figured at some point they would do a feature on both -- if so, now is the time to do Montgomery, as history would suggest CN will blow them out again. At which point, you write the story about Cardinal Newman.

Newspaper expect CN to win but yes thats wrong not to write about it. Every yesr the force to write when playoffs are going to start. CN is private school that has most of the best players in their area.

Dont feel bad Brookside only has one write this year and it was last week because playoffs are about to start. I sure their are alot of school that dont get write ups until playoff time.

The East Bay Times has basically no prep coverage at all. Acalanes won the state volleyball championship in Division III and never a word was written about the team.

Every Tuesday, Darren Sabedra, a good reporter based in San Jose, gets a page to cover all the high schools from Richmond to Morgan Hill, from Los Altos to Brentwood ...

So count your blessings.

From the journalism point of view, it may be that they know they will write about CN quite a bit in the postseason so you don't want to do all of the profiles/story angles before the playoffs and then run on empty.

I would still cover them more, but it is a dynamic that comes into play with one power towns.

Back in the early and mid-1990s, we heard many of the same complaints about those unbeatable Sacred Heart Prep powerhouse teams. The griping was two-fold: The media gives way too much coverage to that school and ignores the public outfits; the media goes overboard to try to provide equal time for the publics when SHP is so much better than everyone else it's painful. It's no-win. But CN will be fine. Just keep winning. The coverage will follow.

They won't. They will make noise in D4 section and Open. They have the pieces, have been battle tested and I would anticipate them playing Mitty in Nor Cal Finals unless CW comes North as predicted.

Montgomery lost to Santa Rosa 45-50 and SR will play Newman for Tourney Title which I'm going to call a 40 point victory for CN. ( I know I'm going out on a limb). Newman girls are the real deal.

Newman, outside of Mitty the toughest in the Open field. Experience, size and the marquee coaching.
