A couple of notes from the Sunday determinations:

Unbeaten Santa Clara, 24-0, got the No.5 seed in Division 2 behind four teams with a combined 40 losses. The Bruins, however, play in a weak public school B league and had no signature wins whatsoever outside the league.

Menlo-Atherton, 26-1, got shoved to a No.5 seed in the Open behind a gaggle of strong private/parochials. M-A was not helped by its PAL schedule which offered no serious competition.

I think the big news from the CCS Open seedings is that 7-loss SHC was seeded #2 and 2-loss Pinewood was seeded #3. It looks like Pinewood did slightly better against commoin opponents, but SHC had a significantly stronger schedule. I don't disagree with this seeding, but it's quite a departure from past seeding decisions by the CCS folks.

Menlo-Atherton builds up an impressive W/L record during their regular season unfortunately only to play far superior talented teams in the post season. They have a rematch with Valley Christian, who they lost to last year. I think M-A may go 0-2 in the open this year again.

Anybody know are the Semis at Milpitas again? Also what time are the Semis?

I haven't seen the Semi's site yet, but how does it make sense to use Christopher High in Gilroy with a 5:30 p.m. start for Menlo-Atherton vs. 4 Valley Christian? I can't believe they couldn't find a more centrally located school to hold this opening round game. It is a 1-1/2 hour drive on a Friday afternoon from the Peninsula. They will not get any fans not associated with the two teams to attend.

If the seeding breaks for them after the sectionals are finished, M-A should be a factor in NorCals Division I. The Bears have enough, even minus the two outstanding Kailahi sisters (gone from the team as of mid-January), to do some damage in Division I.

Typically, being seeded No.2 or No.3 doesn't matter much. If they play in the second round, it would be on a neutral floor.

No doubt, it's more of a superficial distinction. And since they should ultimately get to decide it on the court, the seeding isn't a big deal. It is surprising however, since the situation was almost identical last year. But last year the committe gave Pinewood the #2 seed and they beat SHC somewhat convincingly.

I totally agree and have never understood the reasoning for using this site ever since the open started. Does a host site get some of the gate, and someone from Christopher is high on the ccs committee?? To me it makes ZERO sense.. Gunn is a great location for those teams on the top side of the bracket.. on the boys side it is somewhat centrally located in Santa Clara/ Sunnyvale.. christopher is just such an outlier that there HAS to be something behind it..

And why hasn't the semi site been released yet? Does it depend on who wins?

And why do the boys and girls open final both say 6:00pm?? This is madness..o_O

From my experience with NCS, schools that volunteer their gyms as a home site are not all that common, and sometimes it's hard to find sites. And there's no money in it for the schools, really, though it's possible other sections will pay for the use.

Even if there is nothing in it for the host school, don't you think the CCS itself would be invested in finding a better site? like letsski stated, no one outside of devout team supporters is going to want to make that trek with traffic.. correction Friday traffic (possibly worse pending weather).. the 2 games have the potential to be the best/ most competitive of the first round and will probably be the emptier of the 2 locations.. I just see few positives

CCS officials are thrilled when a centrally-located school volunteers to host games. But few want the headaches. Hence the outliers.
