Centennial is bringing 278 people to the SBG. 126 players, 25 coaches, six crew members, eight trainers, 80 band members, two band coaches, 24 cheerleaders, three cheer coaches and four administrators.

126 players? I assume this includes their JV team as well... With call-ups, DLS may have ~65.
I've never liked it when teams have 100+ on their roster. First that means numbers are shared, but most importantly that means a lot of players who will never get decent playing time. It would suck to wear the jersey but never play a down...

Are you kidding? Suck to travel to a State Bowl game? Suck to stand on the sidelines wearing the jersey that represents your school? Yeah, maybe so -- probably best to stay home and play video games!! Who cares how many they bring, DLS will take em all on!

Who cares if they bring 200 players? I say suit the basketball team and bring them too, what a great experience for a HS student. You can only play 11 at a time, doesn't help or hurt the opponent but it does enrich the experience of the student athletes. After all, isn't that what HS athletics is all about anyway?

I'm just saying, if I suited up I would want to play. I didn't suit up to stand on the sidelines and cheer. The game isn't long enough (nor will likely be a blow out either way) to get 126 players in.

Have to disagree here.. Not in the fact that I'd want to play if I suited up.. But in the fact you imply that simply because I suit up, I'm entitled to play. Just to be considered part of the team (ie suited up) for a state championship game is a great privilege and honor

The players who don't get in the game still benefit from the unique experience of this game. They are still practicing, playing scout, watching film, and helping the starters get better. Many of these players have seen playing time as coach Logan pulls his starters early in blowout games. Perhaps most importantly, the younger players will not be starstruck when it's their turn to play on the big stage because they will have the experience of preparation for this type of game. Smart move in my opinion.

Yeah I guess if I lived in Corona, I'd rather these "extra kids" would just be hanging out around town, smoking reefer, drinking mad dog 20/20, spray painting graffiti around town.

No benefit of being part of a team and experiencing a very cool and special opportunity and memory most kids will never get. :)

bella- you crack me up! Mad dog 20/20!! bahahahhaha.

Yeah , in 20 years when you have a state champ pic on the wall and you are telling your kids about the time you beat the mighty green machine... I think that is pretty damn cool. And lets face it. Those stories tend to take a life of their own but that is all part of the fun.

I didn't imply anything about being "entitled to play". If you are happy sitting on the sidelines cheering, good for you. I am not, I'd rather be on the field. I don't consider not playing as being a part of the team.

I think some schools just do this for intimidation. Especially when there are 100+ kids on the roster (Not the Frosh or JV teams coming to the championship)

Where I live there are teams that large, and they forgo a JV team. I think this hurts the kids, as they will not develop as well sitting on the sidelines as they would playing in JV games. Practice is one thing, but nothing can simulate the pressures of a game.

I don't know what Centennial is doing here, or how big their Varsity roster is, if it is Frosh and JV players, great; let them be on the sidelines, but I wouldn't suit them up. If they do, it is just an intimidation play.

I see that you never been to Corona. It is the Beverly Hills of inland empire. Many pro baseball player lives Corona, millions dollars home. Great place to live and its still growing. Please come down for the fun in the "SUN" and great weather. 1 hour from the beach, mountains and the fun in the desert.

Corona is not the bevery hills of the IE. It is somewhat similar to Livermore though. Best of the IE is the temecula/murrieta area unless you count the palm springs area.

It is my understanding that CC has it's JV practice with it's varsity squad. They then break off and game plan for their games. Practice and varsity speed no longer becomes an influence onthe younger players a nd they are ready to adapt to varsity play much faster?

Where is G61? He would definitely set us straight on what Corona is and isn't. But lets get one thing straight.... Beverly Hills and Inland Empire never should be used in the same sentence or paragraph for that matter.

As for the team.. DLS will not be intimidated by #121 who is a 5"4 140 lb Filipino called up from JV.

Wasn't a knock on the city of Corona. It was more of sarcasm towards the OP moron!

From what I understand, CC will throw in their JV if they have a nice lead. I've also been told they throw in their freshman towards the end of the game too. I don't think this is going to be a blow out by CC at all but they do have all levels get varsity experience whenever possible.

I knew they threw in their JV in blowouts, wasn't sure about freshman. With the clip they score Im sure their freshman B team get some game reps lol.

What's the rule now on age and playing Varsity? It used to be that you had to be 15. I think they amended that but not sure.

CIF rules for age requirements to participate in Varsity sports:

A. Participant must be at least 14 years of age;
B. Aletter of file from a licensed medical doctor that the student is able to compete at the varsity level.
C. Signed consent form from the parents allowing participation at the varsity level.
D. A statement from the coach that the student athlete has the physical and mental maturity to compete at the varsity level.
E. A statement of compliance by the principal must be forwarded to the respective section office verifying that all required documentation has been completed and is on file in the appropriate school office.

Great info. So if they are 15, they don't need that?

Either way, if you were to be on the opposite team, and CC's freshman team scored on your varsity, are you going to complain to CIF? Btw, last night was a great game.
