Central Coast Section Basketball Tournament Selection Show

Thanks, I thought it was just me and had grown frustrated. I'll keep checking.

Probably, the seeding meeting went long.

Maybe, the OPEN Division teams took longer to decide.

Maybe, any division with more than 16 teams eligible took longer.

Boys Division 3 had 18 eligible teams.

If no D3 teams go up into open, then it at least leaves one division of CCS where there will be intrigue:

3 WCAL Teams

Riordan
Sacred Heart
Valley Christian

2 MHAL Champs

Prospect
Gunderson

PAL

Burlingame
Hillsdale

Division 3

Top 12 teams
Burlingame
Prospect
Gunderson
Sacred Heart Cathedral
Archbishop Riordan
Jefferson
Valley Christian
Aragon
Hillsdale
Mount Pleasant
Capuchino
South San Francisco

Next 6 teams
Monterey
Aptos
Saratoga
Del Mar
Soledad
Gilroy

So who is not in the playoffs?

Delay is attributed to "because of some tough competition and choices this year" according to their Twitter feed that I saw on wcalsports.org.

Hey ARHS stats - I don't see the WCAL playoff schedule anywhere online. Are they foregoing the WCAL playoffs again this year and teams will go straight to CCS?

Yep. No WCAL playoffs. Strictly round robin now. Till they realize the lost revenue lol

As always, Burlingame would have to go through Riordan and Sacred Heart Cathedral. I don't believe Burlingame has EVER beaten SHC.

Don't know how riodarn made the open and not SI they had the worst league play only beating VC and home game against SHC

I just looked at the NFHS network they have them seeded 5. They bracket the show have Mitty at 3 and 5. Verbally the announcer said they where5 playing against 4 SHP?
Can someone translate IHilll's post please.

Those last few posts were pretty funny. That said, are the brackets up yet?

It's funny how strong D1 is in other sections and how poor it is in the CCS. Yes, Gunn is usually big enough for D1. Yes, Serra used to be in D1. But even back then, D1 didn't have anywhere near the depth that it does in the NCS.

D2 should be interesting with a final between SI and Gunn or Leland.

D3 is actually pretty deep. Maybe the deepest a bracket has been since Open was introduced.

D4, on the other hand, is unbelievably watered down.

As for Open, it's a shame that M-A and St. Francis are on the same side of the bracket. I would've liked to see M-A and Serra as the 2 and 3 to set up a semifinal there should M-A beat Mitty.

I hate seeing teams with losing records seeded above league champs... Yes I'm sure SHC and Riordan are better than any team in the Mt. Hamilton but why not make them prove it? if they truly are better they can win an extra game or two playing as a lower seed... SHC got the 2-seed over prospect at 3, Gunderson is below both SHC and Riordan with a 5-seed... that's pretty lame in my opinion...

unrelated note, D1 is bad... really bad...

I don't see how M-A got a 4 seed. They should've been at worst a 3 seed, but if they get by Mitty, that matchup with St. Francis will be an interesting one.

M-A vs Mitty and HMB vs Bellarmine are the best chances a public has had to beat a private in the Open since it was created. Both will be good games.

From what I understand they couldn't justify seeding M-A ahead of Bellarmine since they lost their head to head with them. Guess those December games mean something ;)

Also worth noting that WCAL teams are 11-1 in opening round games, and the one loss was to another private school (Sacred Heart Prep). Nonetheless, I'd like to see this general setup for future reference:

1 Top WCAL
2 WCAL runner-up
3 Top non-WCAL
4 Second non-WCAL
5 WCAL third place
6 WCAL fourth place
7 Third non-WCAL
8 Last non-WCAL

This will set up for the top non-WCAL team to face the WCAL champ in the final if they can get through the other teams. The WCAL seems to typically go so that 1 and 2 are comparable, but then there's a gap to 3 and 4.

HMB beat Bellarmine. Their game against St. Ignatius was a foundation game. However, HMB has a transitive win over Serra thanks to their win over Burlingame.

However, that shouldn't mean much. Yes, HMB is better than Burlingame, but Burlingame's win over Serra was definitely a fluke.

That's why you put on the sneakers... any giving Friday night.

Anyone have any predications on the open games?

Easiest prediction: St. Francis wins comfortably, something like 80-55. Santa Cruz has a heck of a guard in Kaijae Yee-Stephens, but he doesn't have a supporting cast that can compare to St. Francis.

M-A and Mitty should be a heck of a matchup that may come down to the final moments. Mitty is extremely deep inside, but M-A has tons of talent and depth at the guard positions. That one could go either way.

HMB and Bellarmine should be a close, low-scoring game. Bellarmine's performance will measure just how much better a team becomes by playing 14 games against WCAL competition.

I think Serra tops Palma by about 8. Palma simply hasn't played the competition that Serra has, but they have the talent to keep it close. Should be a great battle at point guard between Bouyea and Jones.

Good analysis. I've got M-A beating Mitty by 7. Serra and St. Francis win easily. Maybe biggest game of the Forslund era for HMB. Bellarmine won't be as successful as M-A in slowing them down. Should be close finish.
