Has a whole lot of guys coming back, too. In a quick glance thru their roster, I only spotted two seniors among their rotation players.

That's because Chico States stays in the gyms, especially in the Sjs section which was loaded this year with d2/naia, players. My question is where were the bay area and other norcal D2's? Are they going to continue to let Chico ravage the region? Cal State Monterey has picked up the pace with young assistant Tyler Brown and UC Merced has been visible. How do you let Ellis get to a D2 on Montana?

I keep saying this but Clink has built one of the premier D2 programs in the Nation. They are top 20 every year and his guys love to play up there. Greg is a rare gem these days. I coach and person with integrity. They have 3 starters back next year Kiddmann. The great thing is most of these kids are guys we've all watched play around Norcal. Robert Duncan is a kid I talked about at Granite Bay. No doubt he could have played D1 but he found a home at a high D2 and is an all american. Not a bad deal. And employers love Chico State Grads. Got a lot of friends doing just fine financially after earning a degree there. These are good stories.

When you are at a D2, you have to invest the time to watch a wide range of players and also the the homework on if people want to go this route. It is usually a long recruitment process and you can't waste your time on guys with a "D1 or bust" mindset.

Streak One: out of curiosity, where are you getting this information? D2kids are targeted early. Most decisions are made on D2 kids late because schools are waiting on financial-aid packages. A typical D2 scholarship is about 20%, in some cases 40-50%. 100% is almost unheard of.

NSBASKETBALL- The total packages today at D2 schools are much better than what you have listed. Partials might be the case for baseball, track, cross country, etc but the main hoop guys are getting 75%+. That is combined athletic awards with grants and other aid.

I think what Streak was saying is the guys who Chico State are getting now are most likely hearing from the Sac States, Fullertons, Northridges, etc as well and some kids still have those D1 dreams. It can be tough if you have guys holding out for an offer from a D1. But in terms of recruiting its all the same in my book. The D2 guys don't have the resources but a lot of times have to actually be better salesman.

Legend: What I quoted is what the basketball program offers. What you are referring to the total as it pertains to the financial package offered by the university/college combined with what a family qualifies for after filling out financial aid paperwork. I have even seen where some players who are offered even less depending on their value to the team.

I didn't mean target early and I don't think I said that. For D2 and other non-D1s, it is about understanding the broader landscape of high school/JUCO basketball and not getting locked in on a small group of players. It is about finding as many guys who can help you and then working hard to get a solid group of them. In this case, I'm sure Chico didn't focus on just these four players. To do this process correctly, you have to spend a lot of time in gyms.
