G-d only knows when basketball will start. Spring?
I think the start date is March 14th for NCS hoops.North Coast Section will release it's start dates at 1pm today.
Take this with a grain of salt too, as with everything COVID-19 closure/reopening related, it will be fluid. Nothing about this is set in stone, if this thing isn't under control at any level better than now, don't count on this schedule holding up still....
Basketball SJS first game March 9
Southern section March 12
State finals June 18-19
North Coast Section released it's dates. Basketball starts March 15th. There are several kids that play both basketball and baseball/softball. They will have to pick. This is going to kill some small school programs this year...
I 100% agree with you. The problem is, at least typically in the NCS, basketball and baseball games fall on the same days quite often. Unless the schedulers consider it when doing league schedules it could still be an issue. Hopefully they take that into consideration. You may see schools allow athletes to play 2 sports. I don't think there is a CIF rule against that. I know kids have played baseball and run track in the past.
If I had a young man who wanted to play both, I certainly would try and accommodate that possibility. Maybe would have to split practice time and get another coach to agree. But, these are circumstances that no one has experienced and may have to think out of the box.
Wow, that is a serious disparity between sections. NCS teams cannot begin practice until March 15, whereas SJS teams can PLAY their 1st game on March 9!! Practice starts for SJS teams on Feb. 22, 3 weeks earlier than NCS. CCS will announce their calendar probably Wednesday as they have an executive board meeting tomorrow.
If a Kid is a serious D-1 prospect then he has to play on the Shoe Circuit unless he has already secured his offers. Look at the ratio of College Coaches @Circuit Games vs HS Games. There's no comparison! The schedule has a serious conflict with basketball live periods. While CIF will allow athletes to play club, what coach will allow players to miss practice and possibly games to travel to tournaments.
The shoe circuits hold live events on east coast in April requiring travel on Thurs or Friday for west coast teams.
Many NorCal schools end in May... not sure how that will impact June games.
Which is crazy because SJS usually is behind NCS due to the fact that NCS doesn't have dead period and SJS does. This year SJS isn't having a dead period, thank the lord. Never was a fan of dead period.Wow, that is a serious disparity between sections. NCS teams cannot begin practice until March 15, whereas SJS teams can PLAY their 1st game on March 9!!
