After initially suspended the rule about playing for two teams simultaneously in season, CIF announced it will bring back the by law that prohibits student athletes from competing on club teams and school teams at the same time. Initially this year CIF was going to waive that by law but now it seems they have changed course in their decision.

I haven’t seen this yet from the CIF. Hard to understand the ‘science’ behind this decision. Is the CIF saying we trust the schools teams to be safer than club teams? What about coaches, because I think that’s the bigger issue. If a schools coach also coaches a ‘club’ team (assumingely paying them more money), the school is likely left with no coach.

We heard this from our AD too. I believe this is coming from the State Public Health Department about contaminating pods from different areas. It could potentially make contact tracing too difficult if they were part of several teams.

I think it has more to do with mixing cohorts and increasing the chances for covid contraction.

If they force the kids to choose between school and travel I believe the kids that have a real chance at playing at the next level are going choose travel basketball.
You make a great point. This came up at our meeting last week with our AD. Many coaches expressed concern about being able to field teams - especially from the boys and girls soccer coaches.
