CIF could do a better job of Hosting of the lower division bowl games

The writer proposes 0 bowl games in the NCS and SJS section, holding them in the NS and Central Section instead. This is a bad idea.
Yeah, it seemed to me the writer wasn't too familiar with the whole CIF landscape. Since he focused on the Del Monte vs El Monte game and he is writing for the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, my guess is that he is simply reacting to the word on the ground in the Monrovia area. (Fred Robledo is a local sports editor). So that means his world is centered in the east LA county of the Southern Section > Southern Section > SoCal > Southwest US > Western US (of which he remembers NorCal is a part of) and so on. He believes El Monte should be on the big stage and he may have even seriously contemplated the long, cold, wet trek northward. Therefore he writes his article according to his knowledgebase.

Writer is a little off on some facts. But the idea of a central site for all games to me is the best way to go like just about every other state. GS is hosting all the GA games, TX will be at Jerry’s place. FL had two designated sites for the past 2 weeks.

Just rotate it between Bay Area, Sac, LA/OC and San Diego every other year and do 3-4 days of games. That’s fair for everyone and a simple answer.

5 was the right amount. Now it seems like participation awards. Hard to seriously look at a team the went 5-5 season 1-4 league as a state champ but here we are

That has got to be a first in any sport. A team that came in last place in their league being recognized as a state champion. I wonder if the town of Clayton will throw a parade?

5 or 6 years ago SRV came in 3rd place in the EBAL in hoops behind DLS & Monte Vista. Both DLS & MV were selected to the Open Division, and SRV ran the table in D1 beating the Ball brothers to win “the state championship”.

Knowing how that program acts yes. It’s borderline pathetic they got into the playoffs let alone a state title game. Then factor that game was against a D5 program with enrollment around 500 coed, and barely beat them says it all. Reality is it makes California football look pretty weak.

Sounds like the writer is just complaining that the South has to travel so far this year. He incorrectly stated that when they expanded in 2015 that the lower divisions were spread across the state. They were not, they were all at South Host sites, some were Home some were not. But they were all in the South.

In 2015 the lower divisions were held at South host sites, except in Division 4AA where North champion Hanford hosted

Money is a driving force, but if you didn't have it all over the place and a central location that has to be a negative.. Shrink it down to 10. That is still 19 teams being selected from each region if they have norcal games before all other than the top bracket.

THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS - 3 divisions with the 6 best teams in the state divided up.
THE OPEN - SMALL - Best Nor Cal & So Cal teams under 1000 students
Public School 2000+
Public School 1500 range
Public School under 1000
Private School Divisions - 3 divisions

All games in 3 locations.. If games were all located in Sac Area for instance maybe you use Sac State for the open.. Sac City, UC Davis, Folsom High etc..

You think Murphy is going to piss away such an opportunity?

Technically they are recognized as State Bowl Champions which is often mistaken as State Champions. I hate the way the state does it and frankly have never liked it. I think they should have a true state championship tournament which can still allow bowl games too. Take top 4 teams for any section and make them play into the championship tourney. The rest of the section can play for Bowl eligibility. Some sections will need adjustments like Oakland, but not that hard to figure something out.

What it could look like if it were all enrollment based and citing CalPreps state rankings for good measure.........

Open: #3 De La Salle (1,000 - All boys) vs. #1 St. John Bosco (860 - All Boys)
Division 1: #7 Central (4,200) vs.#15 Pacifica (3,200)
Division 2: #11 Serra (830 - All Boys) vs. #4 Corona Del Mar (2,600)
Division 3: #50 Ripon (900) vs. #9 Sierra Canyon (1,000)
Division 4: #32 Cardinal Newman (575) vs. #42 Aquinas (550)
Small School: #45 McClymonds (400) vs. #76 Bakersfield Christian (485)

Only place you see a somewhat of a ranking / enrollment discrepancy is with the ****ing cheatin' ass privates (i.e. Serra and Sierra Canyon both have middle of the road enrollments but recruit all-star squads).

D-5 in the SS isn't like D-5 anywhere else in the state. Educate yourself.

Lol, why don’t you. That school runs 500 deep coed! And most programs that are D-whatever north or south won’t play their starting QB at LB as well unless they struggle in numbers. Educate yourself by looking at their league and who they played and get back to me.

Their enrollment is not relevant, particularly since they're a private school. It's true that their league is an echo of when they were a D-11 team, but they're not that anymore. Look at the teams they beat in the D-5 playoffs. Oak Hills, Glendora, and San Juan Hills are all bigger schools. SS D-5 is like D-2 anywhere else. Emphasizing that makes you look like an idiot because everyone else knows what that means but you, apparently.

Palma has used their QB as safeties on multiple occasions. I don't care where their QB played on defense or that he played on defense at all.

What’s a pay phone?

Maybe after I grab my photos at the Fotomat I’ll have some change. If not I’ll get it at the video store when I rent that beta max movie.

I actually had an 8-track player.
