The allowed contacts may not have changed, but getting the games in will be difficult. Remember, boys' volleyball will also be played in the spring, so you will have three boys' basketball teams, two or three girls' basketball teams, wrestling, cheer and boys' volleyball all needing access to facilities.
Schools with two full gyms obviously have a major advantage, but smaller schools are going to struggle to find time for everyone to practice and play, especially as all the seasons will be crammed into fewer weeks.

Southern Section will start practice when football does. The sections cannot agree on start dates -- they're all different.

I don’t see anybody wanting to Opt out. the only ones that would be hurt by that would be the kids
North section dropped out of CIF plan. Doing their own calendar. Not allowed to participate in nor-cal or state games. Bummer for those kids.
Actually no there are multiple opportunities for many people to get hurt if we act stupid right now.... we need smart people making plans that have multiple contingencies
I think (and it changes every day) is to start sports just like a regular year. Butte county just was added to the states watch list so that could really confuse things. Not sure if you start right now that is good for anybody. I think things will be a mess with every sport after Christmas, but hopefully it might be safer??
The north section opting out does not mean they are opting out from the season all together. Just like the small towns opened up for business earlier than anywhere else, that probably means they will opt out in order to start their seasons earlier or at a normal time. Rural california is nothing like the bay area
