Most of you already have watched this but here it is...
The best thing I get from this is the brilliance and willingness for the coach to see the significance of employing a system that
fits the particular
players under the
present circumstance. He wasn't afraid to go against the grain.Too many try to force a square peg into a round hole. They have seen a particular system work in the past so they know it works but don't consider it is always the players who have to execute the system to make it work. If you don't have the players that have the size, skill, experience, maturity, and/ or athletism needed to run a particular system that has to be a consideration. You may need to be
flexible enough to consider changing your absolute "one way only" approach.
And since the head coach is rewarded all of the credit and all of the blame as a given part of the job, it's on them to be willing to adjust when needed. In my opinion in high school at the end of the day creating
team players who are
confident, more skillful and higher basketball IQ players with
great attitudes and
great character should be more important than just aiming to win a championship by any means necessary. Your players should be more confident and better team and individual players as a result of your coaching when they leave your program regardless to whether or not they won multiple state championships. And if
improvement( something you have control over) is the main goal, you'll be on the road to winning championships anyway.
