Earlier in the week There was some talk on the short comings or improvements that should be made by coaching staffs so I wanted to create a positive thread to see what coaching staffs have impressed you guys during this season either in terms of preparation or in game adjustments.

Nick French from Whitney. Not many as passionate and dedicated as him. He runs the younger wildcat aau programs as well. He plays 10-12 kids every game and they all play hard. Not the most talented kids but they will be in every game.

Randy Bessolo-University
Team is very disciplined and stay true to their game plan
Charlie Johnson-Stuart Hall
Made chicken soup out of chicken...
Rich Buckner-St Mary’s
Well prepared with players who know their roles
Herb Yaptinchay-Westmoor
Zero talent but keeps his team competitive in the PAL

Stuart Hall - Coach Johnson, Coach Purcell, Coach Pearlman have all done a fantastic job with the program. All three are great guys, who really care about the kids. I know Pearlman played a big role with Nigel when he was with us for two seasons.

Alameda - Coach Quick deserves a ton of credit. He's been through a lot, and a lot of people would have just given up, but he didn't. Now he has his team in the Finals after a 3-10 start. His father, former USF Don, Mike Quick, is one of the sharpest basketball minds in the Bay Area. I had the pleasure of working with him for 2 years and he is a fabulous person.

Urban - Joseph Skiffer has turned this program around in a big way over the last couple of years. He has a young staff, including Aidan Coffino, and they will be a team to be reckoned with over the coming years. As a Stuart Hall fan, I am more afraid of Urban And San Domenico over the next 4 years than I am Uni.

San Domenico - I don't know much about Mike Fulton. But he turned a team that went 6-19 and 0-10 in BCL West play, INTO a BCL West Semi-Finalist, NCS/CIF contender that is 17-12. That's darn impressive. And he was extremely smart for having his team play in the Torrey Pines (Lower Division) tournament to get some experience.

Serra HC Rapp and its staff! Great job by asst coach Carson taking over the reigns this year for Coach Rapp as he recovers.
Mitty-Kennedy
Bellarmine-Schneider
St. Francis-Motil
O'Dowd-Richie
Salesian-Mellis
Campo-Dyer
Branson-Honik
Dublin-Costello
Menlo-Atherton-Molieri
Alameda-Quick
Folsom-Wall
SJND-Lippi

Got to give it up to........

Coach Ritchie- BOD- Perennial power almost yearly
Coach Walker- St. Pats- Continues to have success year after year
Coach Knight- Moreau- Since his arrival in Hayward his teams had tremendous success
Coach Quick- Alameda- Does a great job at preparing his teams to play anyone

See what I did there? :)

Have always thought ashmore at Newark Memorial is one the most underrated coaches he had some great teams a few years ago and continues to grind with whatever talent he has he makes the most out of it.I would also throw Nick jones in there he had some great teams at Castro valley with juan Anderson and Roderick bobbit and he has continued to have success at monte vista his teams are always well prepared.

yea... someone will say they all have the best athletes so their coaching is subpar..

Jonas Honick- Simply the gold standard when I comes to coaching.
I could relieve the story's about how they used to handle Modesto Christian when MOD would have 3 or 4 Div 1 players and Branson would whittle them down to the nub.year after year.

Here's wishing you great hoops

Jefferson, Daly City
John Falabella
Talk about doing more with less. There's no one that does that better than John and they were down 3 with the ball against SHC with 10 sec to play earlier this week.

Coach costello and his crew are the best in the game right now. "It's amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit"

- donnie dublin

Coach Sean and Fred at Sacred Heart Cathedral deserve some acknowledgement. Losing Emment Neal and Bryce and winning the CCS open last season. Losing two players this season including Oscar Cheng and back to a Division 3 championship game. Overall records not impressive but post season work very impressive.

Karega Hart and Staff over at Oakland Tech has done a phenomenal job year in and year out . Getting his kids to win or be in the OAL championship since he began his coaching career there. Will play for the OAL title again this Saturday.

Coach Halloday at Vanden has turned that program into a formidable one. Player's love to play for him and definitely headed in the right direction and will make plenty of noise in the playoffs.

Coach D Stamps over at San Leandro. Bringing back the winning culture as the previous coaches brought to San Leandro. Has those kids playing at a high level and challenged them with some good non conference games and tournaments.

Coach Curtin at Riordan. His team has been the talk of the town the past two seasons. Although coming up short in the CCS. Looks to make some real noise in the state playoffs. Improving league wins the last two seasons. D3 CCS championship in his first season at the helmet. Coed starting next school year with its continued boarding/international program should have Crusaders continue in its upward trajectory.

Coach R B over at St.Marys (Albany) . Brought the hard nose and winning culture to St.Marys. Back to Back appearances in the championship game. Has done more with less as they say to make his teams fun to watch .

In No Order, just coaches and staffs that do a great job.

Mitty- Kennedy is a great coach and an even better guy. Consistent winner!
Monte Vista- Jones, Larry Jones and Bill Powers make up a great coaching staff. Passionate and workhouse best describe Jones and his ability to adapt to his players strengths makes him one of the best.
Serra- Rapp, has done it longer and better than most and hope to see him back soon.
Newark Memorial- Ashworth, coaches the right way, truly cares about his players and makes sure his kid play the right way or they don't play. Won't find a nicer more genuine guy in this game and his Dad does a great job right next to him.
O'Dowd- Richie, great team, reloads right away and has one of the better staffs around. He's a grinder.
Salesian- Mellis, one of my all-time favorite coaches & people, wins year in a year out and does so much for his kids.
SVSP- Walker brothers, these two guys get after it and have won where winning never really happened before them.
Campo- Dyer, long list of great coaches before and now he's in the conversation. Always calm and under control and his teams play like he coaches.
Dougherty Valley- Hansen, Assistant coaches Ken Williams, Matt Sheridan and a great new addition of Landon Edmond. Hansen & his staff have always done more with less in previous years and now has had some talent and has his team played for the EBAL Championship & Open Division of NorCoast.
Dublin- Costello, not sure there are many that work as hard as Costello and his assistant Jerome. Great staff and great guys, really never has a down year and his team are well prepared. Coaching your own kid can't be easy but Tom and Nick have made it very enjoyable to watch.
Alameda- Quick, very impressed with the job he does and how hard his players play.
St. Joe's- Lippi, an old timer that keeps up with everyone and just wins. Remarkable the run he's been on but needs to get out of that Bay Counties League.
San Leandro- Stamps, has done a great job putting together winning teams year after year.
Sacred Heart Prep- MacKay, loved what he did at San Leandro and he will get those guys going here. One of my favorite guys to watch coach, I think he does it with discipline, high values, caring and just a 1st class guy.
Sheldon- Rollings, Winner, winner. Having one of the most talented teams in NorCals year after year isn't as easy as other think. I am sure other coaches would love this problem but with winning at this level comes high expectations, transfers, getting players ready for the next level and the constant challenges and Rollings continues to develop, produce and do an amazing job.

I am sure I am missing a few great ones too but I do miss some of these guys:
Bamberger- YV, Deer Valley & Clayton Valley Charter
Torres- Antioch & Freedom
Cruickshank- San Leandro, Liberty & Heritage. Now NCS Commissioner (thank goodness). Saw him after the Dublin vs. Campo game, came up and shook my hand and is just a real class act!!

I'm no rocket scientist but I think de la salle's staff is kinda decent. Three NCS D1 titles in the last 4 years isn't too bad.

Would Bellarmine be as good without a 1,600 boys only, no borders enrollment - with no State title whatsoever, yet? ;)

Might as well throw a shout out to Scott De Leon and his staff at Clear Lake for what they've done over the last 2 years. Back to back 14-0 league seasons, Back to back 27 win seasons, Semi final lost to University last year in NCS and finals lost to Stuart Hall this year and now back to back NorCal quarterfinals, once in DV and now in DIV. Extremely impressive run for a small public school!

Surprised that Frank Knight and his staff at Moreau don’t get mentioned as much on this board. They took over a 2 win program and the very next season with the same personnel made playoffs. Moreau has been in the playoffs ever since and with D4 enrollment have managed to win a D4, D3, D2 NCD titles and two appearances in state title games.

As a MVAL parent I sort of wish they would move to another league so that my Cougars could get back to winning titles HAHA ( I know selfish). Have to admit their presence in the MVAL has increased the competitive level of the league.

I just put my .02 cents in as I feel that Coach Knight and his staff are undervalued. His teams are always prepared.

Coach Walker at St Pats does a wonderful job year in year out

Frank does great... but to say d4 enrollment at a private school is pointless. Them kids aint playing at hayward or tennyson anyway.

Does open enrollment mean they can expand the size of the school as they please?
