My amazin’ Cougs are facing the Cardinal Newman Cardinals in 34 minutes…

Winner will face off this weekend against the winner of the Alameda/Las Lomas game.

I was unable to find stats from Newman, so I jumped onto NFHS and took a look for a bit at a little Newman action…

Solid, disciplined team…. Campo will have a bit of a size advantage, but Newman is a strong team, similar in style to Campo…. Mostly dribble-drive offense, some excellent shooters, especially #3 Sam Cline, #4 Gavin Vogenson, #15 Andrew Krilich.

Their main big, Mahdi Camara, is only 6’1”, but he’s thick and strong. and can also step out and hit from the outside.

O’Reilly hits Naffziger inside for an easy one… 2-0 Cougs.

Mansour hits a 3! 5-0 Cougs.

Robeson eurostep, he’s fouled…. FT’s good, Cougs up by a touchdown.

Still 7-0, Cougs D ha been suffocating.

Mansour fouls Vogenson, blocking…. first decent look Newman has gotten…. FT’s good after shot missed. 7-2.

Naffziger fouled on a shot, FT’s good…. 9-2 Cougs.

Kidman. It’s my squad. Newman has 3 good players but isn’t very deep. (All about 6”2-6”4)If they shoot well they can hang in it. But otherwise campo has size advantage and has played a tougher schedule. Will be a challenge for newman to hang .

Uhoh…. Krilich getting VERY frustrated, knocks Naffziger down hard…

Only thing keeping Newman in the game right now is cold shooting on the Cougs’ part….

But they are even colder…. Cline gets one to go, 16-6…. but O’Reilly nails a 3! 21-6.

Great move by Cline for a score…. 21-8.

but O’Reilly nails another 3!! I gotta say the Cougs’ shooting is cold more often…. 24-8. 3:59 left in the half.

Cougs looking to finish the quarter off…. Robeson try, no…. Krilich with a halfcourt try, nope, but it was close…. 48-37 Cougs after 3 quarters.

But Naff rebounds amiss, fouled…. 1 and 1. Front end good, bonus also…. 57-45.

Bergen hits a 3! 60-47…. 4 minutes..

Cline rebounds an airball, scores…. 60-49. Time out, 3:06 left.

Newman looked very frustrated at first by Campo’s D…. but they did fight back well, heck of a team!
