Not sure what to make of this. OLu was the last place team in the best league in the country this year.

Need to see the whole schedule to decide how I feel about this game, but OLu I think would have been a top 5ish sort of team in NorCal this year -- they lost 3 Trinity League games (to JSerra, Santa Margarita, and Servite) by a total of 8 points and lost to SJB by 11 (Mater Dei hammered them).

DLSPop and DLS alumni/fans, are any of you familiar with Kevin Fordon? He was just named Archbishop Riordan's Head Varsity Football coach this week. He was the DC this year and dramatically improved this unit. I hear good things about him and just wanted to get your feedback. There is excitement again for the Crusader Football program!

Sorry I don't know him, but am happy to hear Riordan has a guy they can rally around

I understand he played on the '99 team that had DJ Williams, Demetrius Williams and soph QB Guitterez. They beat Mater Dei 42-0 that year and Fordon had two ints (one against Matt Leinart) and also scored a TD.

DLS-Mater Dei 1999 Game

OLU would have been more top 20'ish in Nor cal this year.

The only two teams in the Trinity League worth DLS's time are SJB and Mater Dei.

Agreed! Not sure what this game would do for DLS. A 4-6 (0-5 Trinity) team doesn't really jump out.

I'm not trying to overhype them, but apparently they have 14 starters coming back

Also, their 0-5 Trinity record includes:

3 losses by a 8 points combined to JSerra, Santa Margarita, and Servite Respectable 11-point loss to SJBA blowout loss to Mater DeiServite was a 4-7 Trinity team -- be careful to judge Trinity teams by their records

Very disappointing that DLS scheduled an also ran team from the Pac 5. They can do better.

Pops-did you see OLu play?
You need to be careful not to jump OLu based on their affiliation with the TL
You are somewhat of a fan of Calpreps and they had Pitt and OLu rated the same with Foothill within the margin of error (3 points).

We will see what they are made of next year, but after watching the 2014 version, I don't hold them in as a high regard as you do.

Pops with the January prop job in full effect! 14 players returning from a 4-6 team, the new 8 players better be damn good. Not a game DLS should take IMO.

Kevin is an awesome guy, I'm really glad Riordan is giving him a chance.

He's played for, or worked with some of the best coaches in the East Bay. Nothing like being dropped in the WCAL for your first HC job.

I don't agree.

First, last season's record can be misleading. For example, Rocklin ended 2008 with a 4-6 record before going on their SBG run the very next season (14-0 entering that game) with the exact same core group of players. Rocklin happened to have an injury plagued season in 2008 and lost 3 games by 7 points or less, but those things happen. I don't pretend to know what OLu's issue was this season, but DLS obviously expects them to be fairly good or I doubt they schedule this one.

Second, I think this may be a case of DLS just giving another program they've never played before a shot. Over the years, they've already faced Mater Dei, Servite and St. John Bosco from the Trinity. On paper, JSerra and Santa Margarita would appear to have been better choices for this season, but that's splitting hairs. The Trinity is the premier league in the country and scheduling any team from that league is a nice addition no matter how you slice it.

You guys know that I'm not a DLS homer or apologist and have no problem criticizing them when it's warranted. I see no issue with this game, especially if they already have an Allen, Trinity or Katy on the schedule.

They do

DLS told the organizer they want to play the best team in TX

That was the list they were given

They said "You pick"

That will be the marquee game of the next HSFB season nationally and, although DLS has a team they want to challenge, playing in TX in August is going to be a tall order

Tall order indeed playing anytime in the state of Texas, but with one of the best DLS junior classes in years coming of an undefeated season, hopefully they'll pick the best of the 3.

I remember him playing on those great DLS teams of the late 90s. Was a really good player, not a superstar so was a bit under the radar, but was really good on both sides of the ball. Started at WR opposite Demetrius Williams and at DB with Demetrius Williams and Charles Favroth (they both went to Oregon and Williams eventually to the NFL, so it's easy to understand why his name may not stand out considering the talent just at his position).
