Each season, despite vigorous effort to keep my ear to the ground, I seem to miss at least one game or tourney that I would have *realllllyyyyy* liked to have seen because nobody bothered to let anyone know said event
It seems to be getting worse each year with most tourneys... Less and less info, later and later... Only a few preseason tournaments do a good job of promoting their product ahead of time... Modesto, Gridley, Bambauer do a good job, though, and DLS is getting a tiny bit better with its VonToure Classic. Of course the BIG tourneys and showcases do a nice job... This is part of the reason that they ARE bigger.
With most of the others, trying to get info is like pulling teeth... In many cases, even if you call the school, they have zero clue what's going on in athletics... So they patch you through to the AD... Which almost always gets either a busy signal or a message machine that seems to never get checked... Or, in some cases, a pre-recorded "weekly schedule" that was last updated in 2009...
I think they assume that absolutely nobody cares about their games except the involved teams and parents and closest friends, so they don't need to waste the energy letting anyone know..
I have had a little bit of luck on occasion when trying the "email the athletic director and/or the coach" method. I think the AD's are much more likely to actually look at their email than to listen to voicemail or some dusty ol' answering machine.
