One of the toughest leagues in the area is the EBAL and again the 2015 season looks to be some hard fought league games....But we have the preseason rolling up soon and it would sure be interesting to see the EBAL teams take on some of the Valley, north coast and the WCAL teams. year after year the EBAL teams stay close to home....In the past SRV took on a valley team and did pretty well, but at the same time, the league could be keeping the expenses down.
This year we have what looks like a four or maybe five team race to be the champ....Cal ,Amador Valley, Foothill, San Ramon Valley and even Monte vista.....all five teams will field either a good defensive team or a team that will pose a strong offense.
At this time it looks like this:
California
Amador Valley
San Ramon Valley
Foothill
Monte Vista
Granada
Livermore
But who is up for that night will surely change things...Good example last year was Amador Valley downing Foothill 25-23...this wasn't expected, but it happened....And there were a lot of close games.
LIVERMORE.....The cowboys went 2-8 last season, the JV went 0-9 and the freshman went 1-9, so the 2015 season doesn't show any promise.....
GRANADA.....went 3-9 and the JV's went 6-4 and the Freshman 3-6-1...the offense has four returning and the defense has three and Granada has a jack of all trades in Andrews, so this is a team that can't be overlooked..
MONTE VISTA.....The Red and black Mustangs had A 4-7 last season and are lead by QB Haenor who is well seasoned and again, MV will surprise you if you are not sharp..
FOOTHILL.....The Falcon's on paper look very dangerous, they went 9-3 last season and have a sold defense in 8 returning and 8 returning on offense.....They have two possible QB's for the job in Woodridge and Merrimann, but it sure looks like Merrimann will be the starter....How Sweeney uses the QB's and how polished they will be is a good question. There is no room for mistakes on the part of the QB's if the Falcons want to become champ..Supporting the Falcons will be Mat Gates, Isaiah Floyd and Cash Connolly just to name a few.
Last season, Foothill jumped on Antioch early and the Panthers never recovered, but got caught by a Amador Valley team that would not quit and lost 25-23..
SAN RAMON VALLEY.....Again on paper, the wolves look real dangerous, although they went 7-5 last year, like the other EBAL teams they lost some close encounters.....They have five on offense and six on defense which will be composed of a big line...They will be fed by a JV team that went 9-1 and rumor has it that Kevin Davidson might be back at QB...The line has two big boys in Jake Javier at 260 and 6-3 plus Nick Kane at 230 and 6-2 and there should be a few polished linemen from the JV's that will make a difference.
AMADOR VALLEY......The Don's enter the 2015 season with a 6-5 record and will be led by a seasoned Jones at QB and a strong and fast runner in MCollugh ...Not much help coming up from the JV as the team went 4-5, but kids have a way of fooling you...There is enough O and D returning to make the Don's one of the teams that you had better be prepared for..
CALIFORNIA....Don't know a whole lot about the Grizzlies who went 9-4 last season, but they have a solid defense again for the 2015 season and the offense will be led by Jack Gerlach at QB and backed up by Lockler,Shell, Lark, Nonato and Norfleet...In 2014, California lost a close 21-14 battle with Foothill and joined the rest of the EBAL in close wins and losses...
The season opens on 8-28
Foothill at home against San Leandro
California visits Pittsburg
San Ramon vista Las Lomas
Monte Vista hosts Castro Valley
Amador Valley hosts Heritage
Granada hosts Deer Valley
Livermore travels to Newark Memorial
There are a lot of holes guys so I need your input....

BD2, keep up the good work on these! I do agree that EBAL teams should get out of their comfort zone a bit a schedule some more "interesting" non-league games like SRV did a few years back. Granite EBAL teams do play all the best D1 schools in NCS, BVAL, BSAL, Logan, DLS, etc. Speaking of SRV I did hear Davidson is returning but nothing would surprise me at this point.... I think the EBAL is also voting on their new league format this week, either one 10 team league or 2 five team leagues by either competitive equity or 580/680.

Great job as always Blue Dog! You left out what could be Cal High's best player Nick Friedel. He's 6'3" 250 and plays right offensive tackle and strong side defensive end. Look for him to play somewhere in college. Great kid good leader.

Cal, Foothill and AV at the top.

SRV did not look as fundamentally sound last year under the new leadership as they typically are- otherwise they would be in my top tier.
