That's an interesting point, and I tend to agree.
One reason for leagues, though, is that it makes scheduling much, much easier. Arranging non-league games is a time-consuming process and a lot of coaches don't want to put in that work. When you've got 14 or 16 or 18 league games on the schedule, you toss in a couple three-game tournaments and now you only have to call around and schedule a few other games.
I've had strong teams and weak teams, and I would prefer to make my own schedule rather than be overmatched or be bored.
I think there are some practical issues for this, but I love the idea. Nobody gets anything out of 40+ point wins. You guys are worried about attendance. My question is why even have an EBAL tournament, or even a league for that matter. At least with respect to girls' basketball. Cal High beats Livermore by 56 one night, then loses to Carondelet by 54 the next night. (Livermore bailed on its consolation game with Dougherty Valley.)
You force teams to throw themselves into wood chippers in league, then make them come back for a little more grinding in the post season.
Forget the leagues. Just have teams make up their own schedules against teams they think they can compete against and save the chest beating for section and state championship tournaments.
I understand there are issues but what are they in your opinion? There's more than just a few practical issues with disbanding leagues.. you guys are ridiculous sometimes
You were a lot closer to the result than I was. 85-61 wow! A statement win. CLET is clicking.CLET 72 MV 59
No double header. Boys lost to De la Salle. 200 tickets to Carondelet with an access code and 300 to SRV and students get in free. I’ll post a link on twitter tonight if anyone on here doesn’t have a ticket and wants to come. They won’t sell them at the door.It was close for a while -- but Monte Vista doesn't have a lot of depth and I think fatigue became a factor.
An interesting point: If there are boy-girl doubleheaders Saturday, will the gyms be cleared between games? If not, will an attendance limit be enforced? If so, how will tickets be allocated?
For example, if only 500 people can be in the gym, does each team have access to 250 tickets for a single game? Or is it first-come first-serve on-line? And of course if they don't clear the gym, then how will fans of the visitors in the second game get in?

Well said observer22.Carondelet started with a bang, opening up an early 18-3 lead, as they couldn’t miss and SRV couldn’t hit any shots. The Cougs then stretched it to a 41-20 halftime lead. The Wolves came storming back and closed to within 10 at 52-42 in the 4th quarter, but Kelly’s Heroes with 2 D1 transfers held on for a 64-49 victory and EBAL tourney title, and likely NCS Open top seed.
Careful Clay calls that good coachingWell said observer22.
As I was watching the game I didn’t recognize these CLET upperclassmen from their team two years ago. I checked Clay’s JV rosters and they weren’t on any of his teams. Where did these girls come from?
Talana Lepolo, Stanford signee, from St. Joseph’s Notre Dame Alameda. One of Hipol’s former players handed off to his Daddy.
Nya Epps, UC Davis signee, from Sacred Heart in San Francisco making the convenient move to Concord.
Ashley Lewis, 6’5, St. Mary’s Stockton transfer.
Allie Cummins, Campolindo finest.
Keshia Vitalicio, the young talent and pride of Clayton Valley Charter.
CLET’s tentacles are in all the regions. Watch your girls coaches, the Cougars are on the hunt.
