Providing we do have a basketball season this year who are the favorites in these 2 leagues? I would imagine dela would have to be favored in the EBAL with those 3 sophmores now becoming juniors what Will dublin and doughtery valley look like this year? In the WCAL I would have to imagine mitty, riordan and bellarmine will be strong. Is this the year valley Christian makes a run in that league?

DLS should be very strong for the nxt 2 years and the same 3 from the WCAL. This Pandemic has slowed the transfer talk, that will be very interesting. Will transfer rules be loosened? Dublin may get a few new players that could be difference makers. Normal year SMC team camp would have been our preview.

I think Valley Christian is a year away from being really interesting, but will be improved. St. Francis should challenge that Top 3 too in the WCAL.

De La Salle will be the team to beat in the EBAL. A Top 5 NorCal team to start the season

DLS is loaded. Kiddman probably knows but I believe 4 starters return. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were team to beat in NorCal.

They will be good. BUT I don't know about team to beat...

Campolindo returns 3 starters and a bench player/big that will be a starter...

Odowd returns three starters, #2 player in the country in his class 2023, the bay area player of the year, a solid guard and a possible high level transfer.

MOREAU returns three starters a deep.and young bench and a possible transfer who will be a difference maker.

MITTY returns a co-league map, two part time starters over 6 foot 7 and a 6th man who will make his way into the starting line up.

RIORDAN returns 3 starters, the memory of a season cut short, a possible high level transfer and the mention of a high level incoming frosh.

Burbank returns three starters. The primary core of its team.

MODESTO Christian returns one starter, an eligible player after sitting out a year, most of its team, and some players Ready to bounce back.

Salesian returns 2 starters, a player who had to sit out due to transfers and a deep bench...

SHELDON-They have two good 2021 kids who is finally there turn. AND who knows who will show up to that school when it starts.

Its gonna be wide open next year. AND NO prohibitive favorite in the open or D1, like it was the last three years. I just hope we can actually see some games instead of speculate...

Dela obviously has talent but watching them at times this year the chemistry did not appear to be there they did not even make the finals of there own league championship so before I would stamp them as the norcal team to beat they have to get thru there league first But on paper they definitely are talented enough to make a deep playoff run.

Agree that this will be a really wide open year. Sheldon, O'Dowd, DLS lead the pack IMO, but all of the teams you mentioned will be good too.

O'Dowd-2 High Majors that nobody else has (Who's the transfer?)
Mitty-I really like them this season
Campo- Mahaney!!
De La Salle-Best 2022 class in Norcal (Still think bunch is underrated)
Riordan- Size
Modesto Christian-Get some pieces that missed last season back
Sheldon- They are Sheldon enough said
Salesian- Lose some pieces but Melis is great
Moreau- Young last season
Capital-Still a lot of returning talent (Really like Flowers)
Jesuit- Isa should be hungry to win in the playoffs

Would not be surprised to see any of these 11 teams emerge as the best team in NorCal.

I am sure I am missing someone

Capital might lose more kids with their coaching instability. I would bet any amount that Sheldon will get 3-4 stud transfers. Grant will be very good again next year.

Got to wait till school starts. Nothing is etched in stone yet. But things are in the works. BEEN in the works for sometime. Before pandemic. I will leave it at that. But things and situations change.

Will be an interesting season, to be sure...

COVID-19 has kept the kids away from gyms, especially in groups for organized practice, training, and scrimmages... and especially games.

Which kids will be desciplined and dedicated to working out and getting better during this long period of isolation from organized activity? Which kids might find another interest and move in another direction?

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if some high-level teams come into the season unready to compete, but then I also wouldn’t be surprised to see the gap between the haves and the have-nots widen...

Anyway, all that blather aside...

Not considering transfer runors...

In the EBAL, DLS should be favored with the Big 3 returning, but they graduated at least one starter and I think three others. I didn’t see a bunch of talent on their JV’s, either.

Dublin graduates a ton of guys but had a stellar JV team last year and may not drop off all that much.

DV has Ryan Beasley and quite a few other solid pieces back, but can’t expect a lot of fill-in help from last year’s 7-16 JV. And the older Beasley is off to college.

So, there it is, my wayyyyyy-too-early look at the top few in this league...

Don’t have much info from last season regarding SRV and Granada, at least not much regarding last year’s rosters... MaxPreps roster pages not filled out.

WCAL: (not counting transfers)
  • Mitty - returns 3 starters - PG Mitchell (WCAL Co-POY); 6-6 Burris; 6-9 Bhandal and jr Burke who saw significant minutes as a soph. JVs were at the bottom of the league and Frosh teams finished in the upper half.
  • Riordan - returns 3 starters - PG Hubbard, PF 6-7 Vaihola and 7-1 Seck. 2 other varsity returnees in perimeter shooting guards Quanico and Barer. One post season addition in 6-3 Avalos. Crusaders could add a 6-6 promising frosh to the roster if he earns a spot. JVs finished at the bottom (having 3 sophs on Varsity will do that). Frosh A's finished an undefeated season and Frosh B's also took the WCAL title finishing with only 2 losses.
  • Bellarmine - returns 2 starters - SG Wolf-Bloom and 6-9 Kiachian. 3 additional varsity players return. Bells took the JV title once again - undefeated in WCAL play. Frosh teams finished bottom half of the league.
  • St. Francis - returns 2 dynamic starting guards in incoming jrs Kerr and Banks. They also return a 6-6 shooter in jr Barringer and 4 additional Varsity returnees. JVs finished in the bottom half (lots of sophs on varsity) and Frosh teams were middle of the pack.
  • Valley Christian - 13 returning Varsity underclassmen return with the addition of a 6-10 big man with several D1 offers who was ineligible last season. Valley JVs finished at .500 and Frosh teams finished bottom of league.
  • Sacred Heart Cathedral - 8 varsity returnees with several high scoring guards. The Irish will be looking to run as height will be a challenge once again. JVs and Frosh teams finished near bottom of league.
  • Serra - loses a ton of scoring and height, but they are looking forward to Coach Rapp's return. JVs finished .500 and Frosh teams finished top half of league with the A's finishing 2nd to Riordan with 3 losses.
  • St. Ignatius - lose a lot of athleticism, but (as of now) have the CCS Frosh of the year in King Wilhite and big man, Jew. Some guards that made contributions also return. New coach now on 37th Ave will determine the future of SI basketball's fortunes...JVs finished second to Bellarmine. Frosh A's finished last and B's finished .500

Riordan to me has a shot to be very good next year if Sek doesn't transfer. He is the key to the whole thing, because you have Sensley coming in. I might get some heat for this but I think right now at 14 or whatever he is, Zion Sensley is going to go down as one of the best players in Riordan history. Yeah I went there.

De La Salle is going to be a nationally ranked team next year. So much talent, the team is so young, and a full year together last year is going to do wonders. Chris Bunch is a problem. He has gotten a lot better, and I think he has a chance to finish his career as a high 4-star low 5-star recruit when all is said and done.

Mitty will be returning a ton of talent, but will all the talent return? If everyone returns, a core of Mitchell, Burris, Bhandal will be very hard to handle. Some basketball players from the past have said some not so nice things about the head coach, will he potentially be relieved of his duties due to this whole #exposemitty movement? Stay tuned.

Bishop O'Dowd is going to be a contender, especially with Jalen Lewis being named the 2nd best 2023 player in America! Marsallis Roberson is similar to Chris Bunch. He doesn't have a lot of hype now, some scholarship offers, but I think the majors are coming for him soon. Extremely underrated with unreal athleticism. The key player for BOD has to be Cahal Connolly...two 6'8 beasts would be hard for any team to keep up with.

Campolindo is a sneaky team. Noticed on Instagram Nathan Bittle(14 in class of 2021) is staying with the Mahaney's this summer, as Bittle/Aidan play on the same AAU team. Maybe Bittle gets comfortable. Maybe he decides to transfer to Campo and play with his buddy? Or maybe he goes to Prolific Prep. Callas and Randall will be two other players from Campo to watch. Maybe Kiddman32 has some inside info here?

Usual Suspects: Salesian, Sheldon, Moreau
Other teams to watch: Valley Christian (Huge Transfers are eligible) and Jesuit.

Good list Ayalar...There will be changes to this once school starts...Dublin will be good again. An influx of talent. AND SALESIAN maybe losing a few younger players.

There will be a LOT of mobility taking place. WE shall see.... The frosh at Riordan will be good. Everything will be in place for him to succeed. He has a basketball pedigree, but don't get carried away now. We all remember the James Wiseman comparison you made regarding Mohr... Lol.
The incoming frosh maybe a player in the mold of a Jaha Wilson type, but it is gonna take sometime.

Nope, I almost never have any “inside info” on anything transfer-related... On rare occasion, I may hear of an incoming freshman before he actually sets foot on campus... VERY rare.

I can think of a grand total of three in my 45+ years of following hoops.

1) Jason Kidd, whom I first heard about during his 8th grade season, but didn’t actually see on the floor until his first game as a freshman... Holy crap, is all I need to say bout that...

2) Aidan Mahaney, whom I heard about during Carter’s senior year... Many Campo fans were telling me he was even better than Carter... Looks that way from here...

3) Logan Robeson, heard about him on YouTube, then saw play a few weeks later at the Dougherty Valley summer event...

Not many for 45 years...

Anyway, this Bittle kid... I saw him thru NFHS playing for Crater, OR last season. Until I saw the above post, tho, I never saw or heard any speculation that he was gonna be anywhere but Crater next year. Impressive player... If Campo is on his radar, I’ll just sit back and hope for it... But nope, I have absolutely zero info or any other knowledge of this... and unlike the the last couple seasons, I haven’t heard or seen anything of any freshman phenoms heading to Moraga. Of course, the virus has a whole lot to do with that... Can’t see anyone if there ain’t no games...
