Friday night had only four picks that went bad but one was a real bummer as Antioch did every thing but skin Rancho Cotate alive with a 54-14 trouncing.....The Panther line kept the Cougars off balance all night, plus a solid pass defense and the hard running of Harris.....
This is what Antioch has taken care of so far.
Antioch 62 Acalanes 7
Antioch 47 Milpitas 22
Antioch 26 San Leandro 3
Antioch 54 Rancho Cotate 14
Talk about making a statement and next on the schedule is Pinole Valley who has been running up the scores, but have a over whelming task facing them against the Panthers.
I thought for sure that Bishop O'Dowd could handle St. Mary's of Albany as they have done in the past, but the young Dragons went down 25-14.
And Mt. Diablo...what is going on???? they racked up loss #4 against DeAnza in a wild scoring loss of 47-36.
But not a real surprise was Campolindo being downed by Napa 21-14....The Indians put up solid pressure that had the Cougar QB scrambling with no time to make good passes, and the running game was stopped cold and for the first time in a while, there was no recovery in the 2nd half which has been Campolindo's ace in the hole. And in a last minute drive to tie the game, the Cougars fired off four passes in a row that all failed as the clock was running out.
I under estimated Antioch big time and over estimated RC and the same with Napa as the Indians played tough.
But what about California who had a bad time with Pittsburg, but one has to remember, that Cal has a very good JV team that moved up to replace the 2014 team and ran into teething problems, but came out shooting against Liberty and in the 2nd half took control of the game in a great victory at 52-24.
But there is Dougherty Valley who is now 4-0 with a crushing victory over Mountain House 58-13...Now the question is how will they do in league play as they go up against Las Lomas, the 2015 preseason has been a big turn around for the Wild Cats.
Another team to rise in the preseason is Livermore with a 59-0 win over Arroyo and are now at 3-1, but now they face Monte Vista in the first league game next Friday night who traveled to Sacred Heart Cathedral and dumped them 41-6 ..
And DLS took care of business with a 41-3 win over visiting Lutheran of so. calif. and Amador valley got back on the winning trail with a 28-7 win over a up andcoming ElCerrito.
Is there any stopping clayton valley charter after their 42-13 win over Logan....When you take a look at their only loss to Folsom at 27-26 and you see what Folsomhas done since the CVC game
Folsom 42 clovis North 25
Folsom 54 Pleasant Grove 14
Folsom 56 Burbank 20
It looks like a clean sweep for the eagle for the 2015 season.....

Very good synopsis of the week. The EBAL is going to be a fun league to follow week to week.

Antioch looks like the real deal. Not to get too far ahead, but the Saturday afternoon finale against Pittsburg could be for a league title.

Antioch has tons of talent but I'd like to see them play a decent team. Milpitas was a nice oppnent, but Freedom dominated San Leandro and even scored more then Antioch did. I am not impressed with their Acalanes, Rancho Cotate or Pinole games at all. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose twice before Pitt game. Ever since watching last year's Foothill game I have been completely unimpressed with the Antioch staff.

You'd think that De Anza score would belong to the EC Gauchos who are still using the Dons field off Santa Rita while EC is being rebuilt. The DA red and gold scoring that much? They've got to feel good after years of futility.

Searching NCS-Max Preps, pedigreed gets you something. The front page highlight films features Rod Woodson's son on a catch & run "breaking five tackles." He'll run all over De Anza by week 10, but in Division 1, it's called poor tackling. 1700 hits in 3 hours, that's called marketing!

These schedules are made up some times two years in advance and these coaches in most cases are not real sure what they will have that far in advance...If Antioch up grades their schedule, by the time they meet those teams, things could and will change and they could be just as tough or become watered down.....
Freedom ran over San Leandro 49-19, but they gave up 19 points?? Some teams have more luck then others against certain teams while Antioch gave up three but scored only 26..Antioch is a running team but have a pretty good passing attack, while Freedom can hit you from the air as well as on land....but my thought is Antioch won't have much trouble with the BVAL until they meet Pittsburg, but Pittsburg has to play their best game, And if Harris can stay healthy, its like trying to stop the mid night express...
