For longtime NFL history buffs, the L.A. Rams have emptied the personnel cupboard to gain a key offensive star with NorCal roots in the past. In the spring of 1959, they traded seven players and two draft choices to the Chicago Cardinals for standout, multi-talented Ollie Matson (halfback, fullback, defensive back, kick returner). Matson was a USF alum, having played on the Dons' unbeaten 1951 team. At the time of the historic trade, the Rams' GM was Pete Rozelle, the future NFL commissioner and one-time PR man for USF during the post-WWII years.
