Great article, I read it this morning. This is the type of program I would want to send my son to.

These life lessons are extremely important to these young men.

Excellent piece of writing on a legend of the gridiron. I was two years ahead of him in high school during his reign. The production I saw from this tiny man his sophomore year was unbelievable. I knew he would go on in the DLS record books which he surely did. I believe he has some footage on you tube or at least did a few years back.

Indeed - great article! Coaches sometimes talk about players needing "fire in their bellies" as a metaphor of strong, focused passion. But coaches need "fire in their bellies" like Walsh. He is a type of coach that student players can model after for their personal passion!!!!.

I lost touch with Serra FB for a time and then read about Walsh & his coming to Serra which got me interested again. There were so many years of ups & downs for Serra, disappointing seasons like any school and the continuing "Curse" games fans came to dread at Serra. I have followed Walsh & Serra closely since he became the coach during which time one of my sons' went & played FB there. As story says Walsh transformed the program creating a completely different environment regarding the sport of football. He is not only very successful, but a very interesting person first & foremost.
