We want to thank Clay Kallam and the rest of the West Coast Jamboree staff for the great brackets (Ruby and Jade) they assigned to College Park. Eight of the 24 games were decided in the last seconds or overtime, including seven of the twelve games in the Jade division, in which we had the pleasure of playing. On the second day, all four Jade Division games were decided by two points. On the last day, the consolation final was a four-pointer, the 3rd place game was a three-pointer and Abbottsford (British Columbia) won the championship with a buzzer beater.

There is a tremendous amount of talk on this board about the elite divisions and what is wrong or right with them. But the WCJ is about so much more for us middle-of-the-road programs that use the tournament as a major program fundraiser and get to play three exciting , competitive games.

Thank you, Clay and committee

You mean the staff did not send in a rogue ref to eject you or turn up the heat?

Thanks for the kind words ... a lot of people put in a lot of time and effort to make the WCJ work, and every once in a while we get a bracket like those two. And that kind of bracket, by the way, is our goal. The idea is for each team to have a good chance to go 2-1 if they play well, and be competitive in every game. Of course, it doesn't always work out that way, but it's not for lack of trying.

And while we're speaking of close games, a nod to Chester in the Garnet Division: The small school from up north played three games that were decided by two points -- and lost all of them. That's a pretty tough trip, but we hope the girls and coaches got something out of it.
