just checking in from Arco, er, Sleep Train...

Just about to watch a very young Central Catholic (6 sophs and only 3 seniors) take on West Campus in boys hoop. CC is ranked 95th and W Campus is about 130th. W Campus has a couple big leapers... Other than that, these teams are strangers to me, though I think CC's schedule was a bit tougher.

Earlier games, D4 girls, West Campus beat Brookside Christian by about 7

D2 girls, Vanden blew out Antelope after being tied at the half

Central sinks a 3 at the halftime buzzer to go up 27-25.

Not the prettiest game, but soph Josh Hamilton of CC has 15 to lead the way, mostly on bombs from 3-land.

W Campus' biggest leaper, 6'6" senior post Isaiah Bates, has one impressive alleyoop dunk and a near miss that would have brought the house down. Unfortunately, he got in foul trouble and sat a lot. Has 3 fouls to begin 2nd half.

Central hangs on to win by 1, 47-46. Campus had the ball at the end and got the shot they wanted, Bates in the paint. The shot was short off the rim, CC got the rebound as the buzzer sounded.

Something like 45 of CC's 47 points were scored by underclassmen. They're good now... Could be ridiculous next year even though they won't have a lot of size...

Sacramento's powerhouse Dragons take on Antelope next... Records and reputations say "blowout city", but if Antelope puts together a game as good as their semifinal performance, they could hang around awhile... Wouldn't bet on it, though...

Sac's athletic edge starts to assert itself as they draw off to a 40-25 halftime lead.

Highlight of the 1st half came early, 3 minutes to go 1st quarter. Young drove from the right elbow and hammered a strong dunk, but immediately afterward Antelope's Jim Strijaus ran the middle on the break, took a pass, and dunked on Young!

Looks like that last bit of the 3rd took some of the wind outa Antelope's sails...

3:22 left, Dragons 67-57' now 67-59 after 2 free throws go down

Dragon Cinco Durr crashes to the floor and is wheelchaired off... Looks like dislocated shoulder. 1:39 to go,Dragons lead 70-66

Wow!! 70-68 now.

Most crazy weather ever. Might be taking an arc home. Major flooding so be careful

They had their shot, a 3 with 8 secs left, but it didn't fall. A pair of free throws make it 72-68 and Sac wins it. Young led the way with 26, a couple blocks, and a large bunch of rebounds.

72-68 Sac final! Very impressive showing my antelope.

Big game by Iowa State bound Solomon Young. 26 and at least 15. Disappointing game by Terrell. He needs to step up.

Herrrrrrrrrrrre it comes, the Game We've Been Waiting For!!

Tossup, but I will take...

MC 63, Folsom 60

I'm sticking with Folsom but it's doing down to the wire.
Very intense start. I don't see Ellis handling finch or wall like he did Sheldon.

Folsom defense is impressive. MC a lot of turnovers. Folsom has missed at least 6 ft so far. Killing themselves.

MC making some good adjustments and trapping ford. You take ball out of his hands and let somebody else beat you. Midgely smart coach.

This game is going as expected. Just 2 great high school teams.

Folsom makes FT and they would have a good lead.

29-28 Folsom

Wall is something else. He's really bothering Ellis. MC has answered every call. Like Kidman said a great game.

Ford has missed some contested finishes at hoop and MC is making there foul shots on the other end.

39-36 MC late in 3rd.

All MC in 4th. Impressive to say the least. Good luck to both teams.
Hats off to midgley and crew.

Kidman- Did you get any stats on the game last night? I'm curious how many foul shots Folsom missed especially front end of 1x1's. I'm guessing they would have had a 6+ pt lead at halftime.

Also, MC played the odds game and forced players other than Ford, Wall, and Finch to beat them. It was genius to trap Ford with some of MC's longer players. Disrupted the entire set. Some of the role players for Folsom had great looks but couldn't hit 3's. For them to beat MC this had to happen. I really see huge upside for Mason Forbes for Folsom. If he gets a 15-16 foot J down along with his strong baseline game he's going to be a mid to high D1 kid. He played Idenhen tough down low.

Ummm...I thought Idenhen had his way with Mason in the post. Idenhen's scoring, rebounding and shot disruption was impressive. Mason was way over his head in this match-up as he should because Idenhen is D-1 prospect with quite the experience and talent. Mason this year has exceeded expectations and hopefully with hard work and the right kind of experience will continue to improve.

No, I almost never get stats, outside of glances at the scorebook on the way out if I get the opportunity.

I hope that new ScorebookLive ap takes hold... Works really well, but at this point few schools have it set up. Maybe in a season or two... Where's that "crossed-fingers" emoji when ya need it?

Forbes has done excellent this year, he has played against 2 of the better big men in the state, and now he has Solomon Young up next. A hellacious learning curve.

Not sure if many ppl notice but since last year Folsom has had the honor of beating themselves, with the exception of the BoD game. FG% has been their weakness and adding FT% to that will almost result in a loss against any team in the Open. Like I said on another post, we will see who comes to play and how much they prepared in the Norcals.

I agree with your assessment but they also rely on their starters playing a lot of minutes and if they get tired(resulting in missed free throws and missed shots) or in foul trouble the team is in trouble because they are not very deep this year. Their relentless style of defense also takes a lot out of them but they are still a great team and have had a great run.

You are correct about the importance of freethrow shooting . However in the Modesto Christian game. Folsom missed 9 and MC missed 8
