This reminded me of the discussion on Grant and HS antics that are eroding he integrity of the game. This was a Harvard guy doing this! Seriously...

I’m glad the TD got erased but thinking the penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct may need to be revised, in particular at the High School level, to bring back a higher level of accountability and respect to the game.

I would have been fine with this guy being tossed too, but instead he stays on the field and contributes to securing the win for Harvard.

Out of hand.

So much for Harvard's highly selective admissions process.

Players def have to be responsible for their actions, both to their team and their school as a student representing that learning institution.

Perhaps some of you fans out there heard or saw this "personal foul" in basketball game between 2 Div III college teams. It is "the cheap shot of all cheap shots" so to speak & beyond that of a "personal foul". The player was subsequently suspended from the team and barred from the school campus as outrage over the video grew. A police report was later filed. Unless the "punishment fits the crime" as they say these acts in sports will simply escalate to a point of ruining sports.

It is Grant only a little bit - I mean, could you imagine Coach Al saying what Harvard Coach Tim Murphy said? "He [Harvard player] was wrong. It's that simple. It was the right call; he was wrong. I'm just so grateful to our team that he didn't have to learn that the absolute hard way of trying to live with that for a year or however many years."

We’ve lowered our standards as adults.

Decorum and respect are no longer widely valued only feelings seem to matter anymore. It’s tragic.

Statement speaks for itself. College admissions, Etc, all naturally take a hit when importance is put on things like gender, or race, and not solely qualifications.

Hence the Asian-American lawsuits against Harvard, the UC system, etc.

“Take a hit”? Seems like you’re implying that bad behavior is associated with the unqualified (gender/race) folks granted admission. I’m not arguing about the implications of quota in general - just curious how it applies to a football player acting poorly.

I guess you need to go back and follow the flow of the thread then. Poster stated so much for “Harvard’s selective admission” to which I responded those ended with quota’s. Look I have no idea who the kids is for all I know he may be a outstanding young man who actually qualified for admission and just made a poor decision like kids do. But the statement speaks for itself and is based in facts.

Considering he was recruited by multiple ivy leagues, Army, and Navy I am going to assume he was a qualified applicant. Maybe you shouldn’t have jumped on this like a female dog in heat because you took one look at a black player committing a personal foul and rushed to judgment that he is an example of “quotas”.

Again, not disputing your thoughts on quota at all. If YOU go back and follow the flow of the thread from the beginning, you’ll see the reply of the poster you reference was in direct response to the original post about the poor behavior of a Harvard player - which is what this thread is about. I did not understand what quota had to do with the behavior of the player so asked you to clarify what you meant.

Good lord. I assume first poster was being sarcastic so I followed with sarcasm. You take it as a serious statement based in a complete fact. Of course sarcasm only really stings if it is based with a hint of truth, but as I stated I have no clue about this kids background.

Seriously? The “I was just kidding but if you’re offended it’s your problem” excuse? My question was intended to give you the opportunity to clarify what you meant in case you WERE being sarcastic. To give you an out since clearly, and as suspected, it was based with a hint of your truth.

I don’t need a out. And all sarcasm has a truth to it.

That was an assault. Hope he is charged!

The part where you said your original statement about quotas “speaks for itself” and “is based in facts” makes it hard to come back and play the “it was sarcasm” card. Comes across like when a person says something they truly believe in a text and sends a “jk” or “lol” text right after.

Ok

Doesn’t get any cheaper than that.
Basketball can get physical. This had nothing to do with basketball and everything to do with some Dude taking out his frustrations by physically assaulting a victim. It's right there on video, and warrants prosecution. Whether he ever plays ball again or is even allowed back at any college should be discussed only after he has paid a legitimate price for assaulting someone.

Very lucky that kid wasn't badly injured, or worse.

It was the index finger. Relax.

That said, if it was a middle finger, I'd give it a pass being that it was a rivalry game. I get the whole thing about class and sportsmanship and all that but in a rivalry game, I'm okay with it being a little extra. As long as you're not out there being a goon and trying to injure guys, I'm fine with telling an opponent to go **** himself. Even a "bird" is innocent. Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.

Remember when Woody Hayes went for two up 34 late in the 4th vs. Michigan? He famously admitted that if he could have gone for three he would have.

Remember when Tom Izzo said he respected John Beilein and Michigan Basketball only to add that he didn't like them one bit?
