Herb Sendek at SCU

He is a good guy but they should have hired current Philadelphia 76ers assistant Lloyd Pierce who played there during the mid 90's and is from San Jose. He also worked for the Cleveland Cavaliers and is 39 years old. Lloyd would have really recruited hard to get the program talent level up from where it is now.

I'm sure you could make a few plays for some other guys but Herb is a proven winner and will be a good fit at SCU. I'm just happy these programs are upgrading period.

I don't agree. Herb is a good guy. Watched him for years at NCSU, but he is on the way down, not the way up. He was on the way up when he went from Miami of Ohio to NC State, but it was a significant step down to Arizona State and an even bigger step down to Santa Clara. What he should do fairly well, is recruit lesser known players from the Carolinas and the Southwest. I hope he will be successful, but it won't be easy.

Agree with Turtle in that I'd rather catch a young(er) guy on the rise than a more established coach going the opposite direction. He also has NO ties to the Bay Area or California but SCU don't seem to try to recruit much within the state anyway which is disappointing.

Although SCU hasn't had many NorCal players there are currently 5 players from SoCal, so I don't think it is fair to say they don't recruit from CA.

This is a solid hire. Could have gone some other directions, but I think Herb Sendek was one of the acceptable directions. He brings credibility to the program who has some ties on the West Coast.

This might be the school he retires at. Look for him to take this into the realm of a family/holistic lifestyle where he becomes a fixture in the Bay Area and mentors coaches and athletes on their way to somewhere else while he stays put and is glad to be in the game.

They should have hired Lloyd Pierce no doubt he would have been able to recruit at a very high
Level even with the high academic standards of SCU.I will agree that it is nice to see them upgrade
from the keating era and hopefully bring some excitement back to the program.
