In the media accounts today, the Burlingame head coach stated that he probably out-thought himself on that final play in regulation. He noted that the kicker (also the QB) had missed a FG attempt earlier and had had two PATs blocked as well. But, you make a good point: If that's the case (and it does make sense), why the routine PAT in OT? Wouldn't the same concerns and rationale apply at that point? By the way, the kid drilled the PAT. On top of all of that, there was some doubt about the final two-point conversion at the end of OT. Did the HMB QB make it into the end zone or not? A side judge said yes. It appeared that others weren't so sure. There was a slight delay in the call. There was some confusion. In any event, the final tally was 42-41. Kudos to HMB. The Cougars will be a tough out in a CCS lower division playoff scenario. Both teams journey into the heart of big-money country next week: Burlingame to Menlo-Atherton, HMB to Sacred Heart Prep. If both teams win, a three-way tie for the PAL Bay Division title between M-A, HMB and BHS seems entirely possible as the regular season winds down.
