HMB won't Beat Serra

What was looking like a dream season only two weeks ago is slowly devolving into a nightmare for the Half Moon Bay boys' basketball team. Two weeks ago, the Cougars were 11-0 in PAL North play and a win over Terra Nova away from finishing the regular season with an undefeated record. HMB was stunned by the Tigers that night, losing on a buzzer beater. They followed that with a sluggish win over Menlo-Atherton in the quarterfinals of the PAL tournament before bowing out 48-40 in the semifinals against eventual champion Sequoia. The Cougars still had enough to earn a spot in the Open Division, but at a lower than previously predicted seventh seed. Losing 2 of 3 is not how teams like entering the playoffs and a third loss in four games is a possibility: looming for the Cougars is a first-round, Open Division matchup against No. 2 Serra (19-5).
A loss to the Padres would not end Half Moon Bay's season - by making the Open Division, the Cougars get an automatic spot in the Nor Cal tournament. Between then and now, all the first-round Open Division losers play in a consolation bracket. Don't ask. Half Moon Bay certainly has what it takes to beat Serra, the best team in the county, but the Cougars will need a lot more than what they've been getting if they want to make any noise in the postseason.

Ah yes Bkwrdkurout, but alas the season starts anew with the playoffs & Serra & HMB are considered equal again [well almost]. It almost seems like the fans guaranteeing Serra is going to pounce on HMB with unrelenting D and Coach Rapp doing his usual magic that HMB has absolutely no chance at all, agreed?

If the gods of BB favor a team then that is likely Serra, unless of course the gods of BB have a sense of humor. Some years ago if memory serves me right, there was a similar playoff game with Mills of the PAL and Serra the heavy favorite as is the case here. Short version Mills stopped Serra and stumped all the experts. HMB is a good team as is Serra & both will bring their A-game. I will bet my $$ on another game rather than this one.

HMB has a shot at the upset. Plus they already qualify for D4 norcals. Could still finish this out strong.

Rmbr, what game would you bet? With your knowledge, you'd do well running a sports book site. Lol!

I would not be shocked if HMB beat Serra. They are a good team and well coached. It would surprise me but not shock me.

Good post Jordan & appreciate your comments regarding my gambling prowess = though my past indicates those stories are better saved for another time .

I like the SF vs Fremont game as SF seems too balanced for a more one dimensional Fremont team. Yes Fremont is good, but SF should take them down & that is the game I am most confidant about.

Looking forward to the games
