How a small school like McClymonds became a football giant

People may be critical of the way Mack is able to "stack the deck" in their football program. But they are a standard bearer of the way an inner-city school should conduct business. They are giving students an opportunity to find an improved life through culture, academics and athletics.
you get it. some will still find reasons to complain.

But, this then begs the question... why aren't the other Oakland schools doing the same?

Used to be same case with Skyline years ago. They had good coach with HC Beam and they drew most of the good players in Oakland. That shifted to McClymonds with Coach Carter and later under current HC Peters and staff. Good coaching, player buy in and pool of talent results in a stronger program.

Really good look at the Mack program. They may be flush with the best players in the OAL but there is also a lot of behind the scenes legwork going on.

It was interesting to note the schools Mack looked at when they were starting this run with Carter.

Company I work for in west oak provides some support financially. It’s a great story and the pride of Oakland. Just wish they got to play Newman.

not much else to cheer for... both pro teams are terrible and left the town for greener pastures. the a's are stuck in an ancient stadium in the hood.
urban decay, murder numbers over 150. oakland people are as prideful as they come. the north, the east and the west can come together for this team with pride.

Good question! They probably are to some degree. Castlemont has the reputation of being a hell-hole. But I personally know some of the kids that graduated from there and they are stellar model young men and women.

Your question should be expanded to other inner-city environments throughout the nation. Why are not more schools run like Mack?

Right coach, supportive administration and patience is where it starts for me. Skyline has made some progress
