I don't see how it makes sense to play football in the fall in Southern California, where Covid-19 cases are still really high -- or an indoor sport like volleyball.
Case counts are very low in the far northern part of the state, so hopefully it will work for them. But here's an issue: If you get a few positive cases on a football team, do you quarantine them for 14 days? If so, then that's two games out of the schedule, plus you'd think you'd want to practice for a few days before you played another game. I talked to Justin Alumbaugh for a story (the DLS football coach) and his biggest concern was that the players couldn't lift weights and maintain their strength to play in a collision sport. So you lose two weeks of practice, two weeks of conditioning, two games out of the schedule, and then you play immediately?
Then again, maybe no one will test positive and it all goes swimmingly. And hopefully we'll have some treatment/prevention advances by November so basketball and the other indoor sports can start playing with no issues.
