That is a good question especially with regard to St. Mary's of Stockton who loss so many players to graduation, transfer, and injury. Any update on the extent of Decosta's injury?

One fact that also has to be taken into consideration is not every coach ( in high school or college) has the guts to put the best player(s) on the floor regardless to age. So not all freshman who make varsity get to play according to the value they bring to the team. But I do notice the more successful coaches such as Sopak, Scheppler, Phillips, Blythe, Gonsalves, McCord, Pezzola,Wilburn and a few others rarely play favorites. They don't give in to parent pressure. They will put you on the floor if you can play regardless to age or outside interference. Because they know the value in getting good young players confident and ready early. And putting team interest before anything else. Do they sometimes over look a player.... yes. But good coaches generally put the interest of the team first and typically develop the group and individuals better than others. I guess that helps them attract the best talent and accumulate multiple championships. Not that there are not other past and present coaches that don't play favorites who also get the best out of those they coach. But where you go and who you have coaching you matters significantly. Of course none of them are perfect. They all have good and not so good games, tournaments, and seasons.

It really depends on the situation the girl is coming into. What school they will attend, the coach they will be under, and the talent that is already in place upon arrival matters.

I am not sure there is a freshman coming in on the Decosta, Moore, Ionescu, Romeo, Paris twins, Chelsey Gray, Appel, and a few others level? If so...... will they be in a situation that fosters their best development? Or one that impacts a team enough to propel that team ahead of any of the top 10 Norcal teams coming into the season? I'm sure there will be a few surprise teams and players.

BTW who are the so call power 5 coaches?

For SMS, as shared by Coach G, "2020, Amaya Oliver getting major attention from Tennessee , Washington , and Louiville . Just the beginning."

Sorry, no update on Aquira Decosta's injury.

What position is she playing? size etc.... My guess she is 5'10 to 6+ feet? Thanks for the feedback. I just got a glimpse at Amaya and she is for real. 6 foot Size and athleticism are in a very limited supply. That explains what I expected was the case. But watching her further backs up the attention and warrants the offers. And she will be just what SMS needs after losing all they have so quickly. Not sure about the overall team success this season, but the future looks bright if they can get and remain healthy.

TE-Hina Paopao of La Jolla Country Day is a really smooth court savy player. The MLK match up with Mitty will be a great one to watch. She is a high octane player who really makes all her teammates better. Mitty is probably overall the best passing team in the state. They move the ball around extremely well and are a very difficult match up especially when they are hitting 3's. The two teams played each other in Vegas this past summer. Mitty was missing Haley Jones and was able to still handle LJD. But, as they say that was then and January in Stockton will be a new game.

I've heard she's playing at Inderkum, but you never know ...

I only saw her briefly, so this is far from definitive, but she didn't seem to be in the Jacki Gemelos/Chelsea Gray class of player. Obviously very good, but maybe not a program-changer.

But we'll see ...

Maule is at Inderkum and she is good but way over rated. I also heard she is a 16 year old freshmen held back 2yrs. for basketball reasons.

well that's problem because the CIF doesn't allow a kid that's over 19 years old play HS sports. She'll have to go to an prep academy or something...

If she is 16 now, then she will be 19 as a senior. Unless she's about to turn 17, then she won't be over 19 years old her senior season.

You may be able to tell by how long she's been driving with a license. If she was driving in the 8th grade she's probably turning 17 soon.

In an attempt to alleviate further discussion brought on by misinformation, Maile Williams is 14 years old.
