Iolani Classic Games on Dec 9th and 10th Should be real good

I always tend to be sympathetic to tournament organizers, but why set it up so the two SoCal teams play each other in the semis, and the two NorCal teams do the same?

It would be a lot more interesting to crossmatch the regions, it seems to me.

Why would you put Salesian and Mitty on same side of the bracket? (Just read your post Clay. Same thinking on this)

Is there any streaming from this event?

It does make for good rematches from last year, as LBP eliminated Clovis West and Salesian eliminated Mitty. This is of course assuming the teams make it through their first round games.

Yep, I agree with you Sjbasketball. Don't sleep on the HI teams. They compete.

And not sure if they will be live streamed this year, but 2 years ago when SMS attended they were.

i will post the streaming link in a few weeks...if any of the Molina kids are still
playing ...don't sleep on the sistas

The Hawaii teams are not up to the class of Konawaena of a couple years ago -- the best Molina wound up at Washington State, I think. If any Cali teams lose in the first round, it will be a monumental upset.

Clay, that being said which of the four Cali teams do you think could win the tournament. Could this be a preview of the state final?

Clay,

I agree with you on that. Especially when organizers know the areas teams come from. But that just bolsters the significance on having your team and personal game prepared at all times. I have witnessed many tournaments where the best two teams meet in the 1st round just because tournament organizers are un aware of who's who. Or the two teams could have just been riding under the radar and peaked at that particular tournament. Then there are teams that bounce back from earlier season losses and are a much better team in March than they were in December. A couple of seasons ago SMS was clearly better at the end of the season when they beat Mater Dei (the team that beat the only loss SMS had that season) for the California state Championship. That is why I laugh many times at national rankings. And why I tend to determine things based on how I see them over popular opinions of others who let higher authority( who's often wrong) determine everything.

Clay you didn't answer the question
Can you analyze a LBP vs CW semi and
A SHS vs AM semi and the final....

I don't have an answer because I don't know very much about Poly and Clovis West at this point -- except that they're very good.

I think Mitty will be favored against Salesian because of depth of talent and continuity, but they were favored in the Open last year, so there you go ...

Mitty will most likely start the season in the top five in the nation, so they will be the favorite, and with the injury at La Jolla Country Day to the star freshman, Poly and CW are the Southern favorites -- maybe.

Rumor has it Clovis West will be shifted into the NorCal Open this year, which will certainly shake things up.

Any team that goes to this classic needs to expect serious home cooking whenever they play a local team. Fortunately the locals do not seem to present any kind of threat to the Cali. teams this year.

On the rock we call that the kama'aina rate....
If your a local you get one rate if you not
you pay a different rate;)

Four weeks to the Iolani Semi Finals
Or as I call them the California Open
Finals preview

Did Ayanna Clark sign with USC? It had been written she had verbally committed since her sophomore year. I had not heard if she followed through on that.

Two sistas still on the team Cherilyn Molina (17.0 ppg) a 5-5 junior, and her sister Celena Molina (12.0), a 5-9 senior....and don't forget the Kamaaina Rate....

OK.... so I don't like the Mitty coach...hoping for a huge upset

She is not listed as signed, only Destiny Littleton and Shalexxus Aaron are signed according to the USC Women's site

Maybe she's having second thoughts? Pulling a Sabrina and will hold out until summer? Hopefully there is no injury situation.

Yang had a tough time last year...
Played most of the year out of shape . .
Want to see her in a couple of week
At the Iolani....should be a great tournament...
