Ionescu Out with Sprained ankle

Reporting as a Grade 3 sprain, which the Internet describes as

Grade 3: This is a full tear of the ankle ligament. You may have heard a popping sound when it happened. This level of sprain causes severe pain, swelling and bruising. Because the ligament is no longer able to do its job, your ankle will feel unstable and will be unable to support any of your weight.

I also saw somewhere that Level 3 ankle sprains tend to take a few months for recovery. If that is true, Sabrina's likely out for the season.

generally for a class 3 ankel sprain, it takes anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on the severity. Since she's a #1 pick, I'd imagine they'll take their time with her coming back. How long is the season?

22-game virus-shortened regular season ends Sep. 12.

Just saw an SI article saying Sabrina was probably going to be out about a month if things go well during recovery.

So, maybe she'll get in a few games late in the season, though I agree with Norcal_Fan that they'd be cautious, especially since there's practically no way the Liberty will reach the playoffs.

Err on the side of caution. She's very important to the WNBA so there's no need to rush her back during a pandemic-flawed campaign.

Her friend Stephanie Curry could probably give her some advice on weak ankles.. since he got experience and time

This is me...50 years later..
A Grade 3 means ligaments are torn...
The question is do you have any left
That can hold the tendons that run under the
The mallaciuos(sp) bone in place...if She doesn’t
The surgeon will have to probably have reconstruct The ankle... back in the day...
They would open you up, drill a hole through the mallacious at a 60 degree angle, cut a nice big tendon push it through the hole they drilled, tie a knot with the tendon...and that became a pseudo ligament...
Pretty cool back in the day
they will know as soon as the swelling goes down...the first bad sign would be if the tendons that run under the mallacious bone
Start sliding over the bone(doesn’t hurt) just feels weird
