I personally don't know of many. What matters most IMO is the effect a coach has on a young child's confidence and their development. Then we can talk about the effect a coach is making on the team concept and the school's program. I will say not all coaches take account of how they are effecting young lives. Perhaps some don't know or don't care. Coach Mike Wooldridge of Berkeley High is one name I would throw out there that I am confident cares about the effect he's having on the children he coaches, and the team and school program overall. I'm sure there must be a few others.

Sometimes a new coach makes things better; sometimes she makes thing worse.

And of course, a lot depends on how you define "better." If a new coach inherits a roster that was stripped by graduation, and wins fewer games, she could still be considered "better." On the flip side, a coach that inherits a loaded roster could win 20 or more games and be considered "worse."

And among many other factors, the schedule can play a major role. If the old coach did the schedule (or the AD), that can put the new coach in a difficult position, as scheduling is crucial for a team to reach its potential.

I can 3 school that parents vote the coach out.

1) McClatchy vote out coach who was the real reason behind the championships. Since coach K left players quit and won't play. That's why they list to Edison players quit and didn't play.

2) Christian Brothers vote their coach out too. He built that team to win this year. They are losing game they shouldn't be losing.to teams like James Logan.

3) Brookside Christian why vote a coach out because some gets cut from top AAU team. parents should love a coach that gives to you straight and lie too you. This is new coach for the first time that's way out of his league!!!!! Coaching and training are 2 different thinks. Timely adjustments make major difference in game.

Parents watch what your ask for??????

Clay (why does it have to be a she who makes things worse) Some male coaches make things worse at times too. :)

Since very few are moving on to play at the next few levels (especially WNBA) I think the impact a coach has on a player's confidence and development in high school is by far more important than just wins and loses. Teaching them about the importance of unity and team chemistry makes for a group that wants to play together as a team. Realizing the importance of the team acronym...."Together each achieves More." Making them better players and building positive character a child can carry with them throughout their life time can often be more important than wins and loses. Because for the most part the team with the best players tend to win with or at times even in spite of the coaching. And the coaches that have helped build the individual(s) and team's confidence and development tend to thrive at the end of the season and at the next level. Not to mention they build and maintain programs, not steer them in the opposite direction. You tend to see who's doing the best job by the number of children lining up to get into a team, school, or program. Time typically exposes the good, bad, and the ugly. Unfortunately children are the ones most often short changed during some transitions. Much props to the coaches out there that make the children an important priority.

Dang Respect, always trying to create controversy.
Don't think Christian Brothers voted their coach out from last year, he left. And from the sounds of it and parent comments on this site, the girls and parents are very happy with the new coach this year. They are having a very good year so far with some good wins, especially the win against St. Ignatius. Of course I'm sure they aren't happy with the losses to James Logan and Del Oro, but both of these teams have very good records. Last night, they played St Marys of Stockton evenly except the 2nd quarter, only lost by 12 to team ranked #5 in the nation. CB will be fine and will most likely make another strong run at a Section championship again and I think will most likely beat St Francis in their rivalry game.
From Paytc: What matters most IMO is the effect a coach has on a young child's confidence and their development.
From the looks of it from the outside, this is exactly what the coaching staff is doing for those youngs girls from CB!

Don't think McClatchy voted out Coach Que either. From comments on this site, he quit on them and left to Vietnam on his yearly trip to get married or engaged? McClatchy had a very good show out at the West Coast Jamboree, although they didn't play in Platinum, still beat some very good teams to win championship. Biggest reason for their losses has been most likely the absence of their best and tallest player Kam Hall. Just like Oakridge without their best and tallest player Delapp, there will be some ups and downs and inconsistency. Hopefully they get her back soon, they will need her against some of the top teams they have upcoming, especially rivalry game against Sac High.

Respect don’t you live in Arizona now the word on the street is you live in Arizona now

So if I always use "he" as the general pronoun, I'm sexist.

But if I use "she," I can only use it positively.

So noted.

solicitation from Arizona for put downs?

if you look at the letters, "she" includes "he". or we can just say "it". my daughter informs me that a proper signifier of sexual ambiguity, in the singular, is "they", at least among the younger folk. although used with respect to gender preference/fluidity, seems like it would work to designate unknown plumbing generally.

"They" is particularly popular among the more radical, as it correctly describes each individual as being a collection of different identities.

I was just clowning around, as the smiley face indicated.

yes. I suggested she try it out in Billings, and see if anyone knew what she was talking about. apologies to Billings.

exactly. "(s)he" would work, but it's hard to pronounce. since we're criticizing replacement coaches, does anyone know a language that uses an ungendered third person singular personal pronoun? might be easier to just switch from English. on Gethen, unfortunately, they only use "he", which won't work here.

Does anyone know the real reason why the Pleasant Valley coach was replaced after last season ? A couple of local sports articles stated the school administrations’ reason for the change, but I still don’t believe what was stated. Winning coach, winning program and then replaced.

I'm pretty sure the new coach is an on-campus teacher, and he's had success elsewhere, I believe.

Given a choice, any school will opt for a qualified on-campus teacher as coach. The connection with the players is much stronger, and so is the knowledge of the team's chemistry. And administrative control of the program is much easier.

I'm not saying that was the right choice, as I don't know anything about the situation (except that one of my former players, Annie Ward, was an assistant in the old regime), but I think that's the reason.

Clsy

Changes of coaches in public schools always happen for the wrong reason most the time. But I will tell you this if AAU decided to make their own leagues during real high school season more kids would play on their AAU team. Most players that are looking for a Scholarship would play in these leagues because that's where all the scout will be watching games.

This league won't be for everyone because there are players that treat as a job and there are players that just looking to have fun. Right there are Academy schools starting to recruit on the girls like the do on the boys side. Alot of overseas money being dump in to develop teams because girls basketball overseas is very big. The better the players get the more money teams can make. The boys side has NBA money so the can develop players and teach them what it is to be star so they can handle it when they get their.

I think AAU teams can do the same as the Academy schools at a lower level. Parents that want their child to develop better will take that route. I'm not talking about the mom and pops teams either. Just think Mitty and Salesian are AAU teams but in the AAU world they are average team.

This league won't be for everyone because everyone not looking for same thinks. The Biggest problem with the Academy schools parents want their child to be close to them during high school. AAU league would give players more development and be close to home.

Azanna

Yes I live in Arizona but in Nothern Ca once or twice a week and get paid for it. Does that make a difference when you have knowledge of what's going on and see thinks develop. Some of us get paid for what we do and what we know.

Pleasant Valley coach replaced for numerous reasons. On campus coach was coach years ago and was successful, he had nothing to do with firing of old coach. Old coach has moved on to JC which is a good fit for his style.
