Jalen Lewis From Bishop O'Dowd Now Ranked #2 on ESPN 2023

Yup... Dude looks every bit like a one-and-done stud or straight-to-the-pros kind of guy from where I sit... And he's got three more HS seasons to try and prove it!

Hard to teach 6”10 with that sort of mobility at such a young age. Great feel for the game as well

Jalen is going to be fun to watch. Echoing the other posters, he has a lot of traits that are hard to find anywhere in the country

This is a very impressive accomplishment for Jalen. ESPN has been keeping track of ranking online since 2007.....He is the highest ranked player to come from the Bay Area (Aaron Gordon was Ranked 4).

Since the rankings came out, I have started watching video of ESPN's No. 1 DJ Wagner (Son of DaJuan Wagner), and honestly I'm not that impressed. He does some great things getting to the rim, but his game is not nearly as polished as Mikey Williams.

Overall if I were doing the rankings, I think Lewis would be 1, and IF there is an AAU season this year, I think at some point we'll see him take over the no. 1 spot. Jalen Lewis is young, big, mobile for his build, and the most impressive thing was he was a leader on a Nationally Contending Bishop O'Dowd team as a freshman.

A lot of high expectations to live up to, but Jalen can do it.

ESPN high school rankings have always been suspect at best. They don’t put in nearly the time or have the man power to cover high school hoops like Rivals or 247.

Is he Ivan Rabb 2.0?
Surprised ESPN didn't eat up the social media hype and rank Mikey Williams #1. Bronny barely made the top 25, but the rankings seem justified.

MAYBE the rankings are factoring in age. MICKEY Williams is 16 or going on it. WAGNER is 14. AGE MATTERS and upside as well. THATS why the JALEN Lewis kid is legit.

MAYBE they are fed up with these fake classifications where guys make a name for themselves and then they reclassify up.Graduate early. Lol......Or they just stay in there class. A Guy Like Cassius Stanley was listed as a 20 year old freshman at the start of hoop season. AND HE is not a Mormon that went on a 2 year Mission...To each his own. DO what you have to do i guess. BUT people are catching on to the game. BALL doesn't lie..But age does...

Yeah I’m sure Paul biancardi knows their ages when he literally hasn’t seen half of them play. Lol. And Stanley will be in the nba in a few months so I don’t think he’s sweating being old for his grade.

Stanley is not a lock for the NBA. He is a fringe second round pick

I think he gets drafted but it'll be in the 2nd round. I don't think the Warriors could pass on him twice, and Curry has had the kid at his camps a couple times, so Curry actually probably knows more about him then the scouting department.

Absolutely agree. Why do scouts love lamelo ball so much? (Besides he can flat out ball) Look at upside... he is damn near 6”8 now. His best days are ahead of him. Mikey Williams wil be a 6”2 senior doing the same things. Upside and future my friends. Lewis hasn’t even scratched the surface.

considering most mocks have him in the late first round he absolutely NOT a fringe second rounder, he’s getting for sure drafted
  • Projected to go: 28th (CBS Sports), 31st (Yahoo Sports), 31st (NBC Sports)

I think its so cool that the, " Camden Connection" is alive with the 3rd generation Wagner. Grandfather Milt is an NCAA champion at Louisville as well as NBA champion with the Lakers. If DJ is named to the McDonalds All American team he would be following in the footsteps of his dad and grandfather. That would be amazing !

curry has had alot of people at his camps. that definitely doesnt mean they are nba locks. however stanley is a good athlete so he will get a shot at least in the league.

Too much focus is on a kids age and not on his physical potential. Some kids are physically peaked out and men at 15 and others haven’t even hit puberty. Mikey Williams will be interesting to watch as he is probably done growing but he’s a 6-3 beast. If he can develop into more of a lead guard he’s already physically big enough. He has an nba body already as a point guard.

You are absolutely correct. No better example of that than the Barry kids who I grew up playing against. They were 6”0 130 lb noodles early on in hs but they keep growing and growing. All of a sudden you have 6”5-6”7 rangy/Athletic kids. Senior year. Genes matter obviously. Williams is a very good player but I will take Bronny James upside all day. He has yet to peak and he will end up 6”6. Every year you will see him getting better and better.

Kids develop.differently. But I disagree. Age matters cause for the most part the kids THAT ARE hold backs are more physically mature. BIGGER AND STRONGER at an earlier age then there peers...It helps at a younger age but it does even out over time. IF IT didn't matter. Why is it done?

The one thing I like about Mikey Williams is his high school coach. TERRY Tucker who has had several players. TYRONE Shelly's, Malcolm Thomas, Rico Tucker. HE will put him in the best light to develop him. BUT his school has another good pg. SO I WONDER how they will balance out the ball handling. Right now Williams is a high volume shooter and scorer.

good pub but he wouldnt ever. the money aint big enough at the hbcu's

Anthony Anderson and Nick Cannon will be paying Makur Maker from what I have heard :)

On a more serious note, this is big news. And it will be interesting to see how Howard is able to taylor their schedule to Makur. Makur is the only player coming into a squad that finished 11th in the MEAC. I don't think even Maker can turn them into a tournament team, but its a great story.

He went 54th in a 60 person draft.
the disrespect for nico mannion... someone on here said he was a for sure lottery pick... now they will say its the steal of the draft and he will be the next steve nash playing with the greatest 3 players of all time

Solid second rounder! Congrats to the young man!

what is going on in your life in November of 2020? Oh you know like I really have the need to quote a guy’s take from June about a player if he’s a second or fringe second rounder, and I really gotta let him know he’s 100% right that he wasn’t fringe at all, solid second rounder :) thanks broham

Great take!

I'm trying to figure out why Lewis isn't a part of the Soldiers program in Oakland.
What's going on Soldiers? I hear he's with Russell Westbrook's Team Why not in LA.

The team and schedule might be better with team why not? Who does the soldiers have? Jalen even bounced on them last year.
