Bill Powers had to step down midseason due to health issues, and Jim Lemmon will move from Castro Valley to take over next year.

It's a shame that Bill had to quit coaching, as he'd started building a solid program, but he is healthy and still teaching.

Jim will step into a tough EBAL at a school that once was a power but has declined in recent years. Soccer, water polo and other girls' sports are strong at Monte Vista -- the school where I got my start coaching way back when we still took covered wagons to the games.

That's an interesting choice. Not much talent at Monte Vista or in the pipeline for the foreseeable future. If there are blue chippers out there, they will almost certainly wind up at San Ramon Valley, California, or Carondelet.

I think Castro Valley is open ... don't know if the JV coach wants to step up.

Now the boys and girls basketball coaches at Monte Vista came from Castro Valley.

Believe the AD came from Castro Valley too

From what I'm told, he didn't feel very supported by the CV administration, and to be honest if you look at the history of how they have supported coaches the last 10-15 years, could you blame him? With his hard work ethic and likable personality, I won't be surprised if he has them contending in 1-2 years.
