Lot of layers to this story, but regardless of which side you land on, it is tough to see a player lose a senior year.

I just posted this in another thread. I wasn’t aware he was formally denied by the CIF, or that this was still being argued/litigated Sad situation for the kid.

Yeah this is just an unfortunate situation. But let’s be honest with ourselves. How do the optics look from an independent party? You have to know that this is a risk during that decision process. And there are number of cases where the exact same thing happened. Learn from it and play at a prep next year. Your career is far from over. Fine player who will have opportunities.

The coach and El Camino AD are wrong on all fronts. Cussing a kid out, embarrassing him in front of a whole gym, kicking him off the team, and then on top of that making it difficult for him to play at the new school is crazy.

Since they couldn’t work this out during or immediately following the season, the young man should have been cleared to transfer by the school with no protest.

The coach has no clue that he is burning bridges throughout Sacramento.

My guess is the best way he could deal with this and still play this year is transfer to a prep academy…

he moved and provided the valid information. no other scorned coach should be able to have this much control over another persons child.
every coach in sac should call out el camino for this.

Bring this article up, the rest should be history. Sounds like agreesive behavior is the norm.

LET THE KID PLAY.

By the way may I add that some parents are over the top. But to have a issue at one school and to have the same complaint at a new school, just doesn’t look good.

Unfortunate situation but there is no rhyme or reason to anything thr sjs section does. Garrison is a god awful commissioner. Some kids on second transfer clearly for basketball elgible immediately and others on first have to sit out whole year. They should take a page out of the socal book and basically let everyone play regardless of the situation. Because the enforcement here now is not fair or consistent.

Totally agree. I don’t agree with all the transfer rules but if you are going to have rules, have to rule with them consistently.

The EC coach is the most hated person in Sacramento.

There’s usually two sides of every story, but even when removing all the “he said, she said” we are left with these basics- what appears to be a kid who doesn’t want to play at El Camino, and by all accounts, El Camino didn’t seem too enamored about him either - so why would EC protest him leaving??

Any updates from yesterdays meeting with the section?? We ALL know of kids who transferred for ‘athletically motivated reasons’, and yet it’s a problem here? Please, spare us from your inconsistent righteousness SJS!

seems to be a pattern from the coach, and yet EC is pushing back on the kid leaving?

here’s a question, if the kid was a benchwarmer, are we even having this conversation? If the answer is “No”, then ECs AD should be ashamed of himself

There was a clear bias by the SJS commissioner. The commissioner made an statement which was admitted by the commissioner “The kid can go to any school but (Grant)”. If there wasn’t clear bias, why would that be the statement that would come from a fair non-bias person.

SacBee reports:

After hearing his appeal, the SJS Section has ruled Parker immediately eligible at Grant. (Yes, the same SJS Section who ruled him ineligible previously). 🙄

Glad for the kid

So is the EC coach still hated? Or loved.
Or forgotten.

From what I’m hearing, a lot of people around town are not feeling the EC coach. Especially in Sac. Word is, he was welcomed into the N Sacramento basketball scene by trainers, parents and coaches.

Grant High has become a popular place for young kids throughout North Sac and beyond to train. (Back in the day it was open gym. Now it looks like the kids are actually training and working on their skills) Nowadays, a few ex college players run training programs and camps at the school, which has been great for the community.

What’s insane, is that the EC coach used to bring his own son up to Grant’s gym to train with these same kids. He knew Kiku was from the neighborhood. He probably met him at that gym smh

Messed up that he would hate on a kid like that! Kudos to the family and community for fighting for their kid.

The CIF needs serious revamping. The SJS is way out of touch. Their leadership team needs more diversity. Doesn’t sound like anyone is even connected to the Sacramento community.

They were at the Lowell Tournament this past week. Lost in the semis and proceeded no-show for their third place game the next day.

Glad to hear that he is eligible more players should be instead of absurd rules that are not consistently enforced. To be honest and fair anyone who knows the situation knows he went to EC to specifically play for this coach and with two other kids (one is coaches kid) who played a ton of AAU together in junior high. The only way the coach got the job was selling the school on bringing in these players. Things ended up bad and he’s at grant but let’s not act like he randomly showed up as a frosh and didn’t know exactly why he was going there.

If this is true, it should be made into something bigger. Because it’s simply not OK for a myriad of reasons. This information would be good to get to Davidson and Salerno at The Bee.

I agree that most of the kids should be eligible. Hopefully the other kids get eligible as well.

Curious how grant will look now. Obviously a big time talented kid. But I still don’t see them ahead of these guys.

I gleaned from reports elsewhere on that tourney that Grant's absence was due to Grant being in a State Bowl football game, and that the absence was at least somewhat okay with the tourney organizers. No idea whether this was true or not...

My takeaway was that "El Camino" (not Grant),was the team that no showed on the last day.
EC's MaxPreps page shows them playing in a tourney (in the Bay Area) last weekend. There is result from Thurs & Fri, but shows nothing for Saturday. Which seems to line up with the original statement that they didn't show up for the 3rd place game.

Grant played in the tournament at Edison this past weekend.

Final Day Results

2:30 San Leandro 54 Grant 51
4:00 Redwood 60 Sheldon 58 ( No Ty Virgil)
5:30 Inderkum 69 Edison 52
7:00 Folsom 82 Lathrop 55

Ok…. I misremembered. I think Grant requested an earlier time due to the football, and got it.

I think @MadHatter11 was saying El Camino didn't show up for their third place game if I'm reading that right.

Grant moved their game around to make the state bowl game at the school that night

Jesuit should be in d1 this year especially if they can win the delta. Grant will be better but I don't see them with Folsom. Jesuit and Inderkum who are my current top 3. Curious to know why Sheldon has been so bad. I know Virgil is but they still have other players.

Sheldon been so bad!! Hmm . How about they play 3 sophs and a freshman regularly and return a total of 9 points a game from last year. They only return 3 varsity players this year. 5 players that played in Summer have moved on . 2 to Capital, 1 to Trail, 1 to Saugus, and last year starting Senior Joe johnson to Heritage Christian following his tik tok opportunities. They have had the lead in all 3 games at Edison till last 3-4 minutes of 4th qtr and gave the games away. Lack of experience, inconsistency and free throw shooting the culprits. They fought back from 20 down vs La Costa Canyon and took the lead with 4 to go and lost on a last shot with Virgil. Remember La Costa led Campo all game and lost at end. Campo may be the best team in NorCal now. Especially with the departure of Phillips at Modesto Christian. They will be fine come playoffs.

Allow that person to have his opinion. They aren't top 7 or 8 in Sac.

You can’t have it both ways heat. Sheldon has been bad to start the year. I assume they will be significantly better as the season goes on. But nobody is going to shed a tear for you because you guys are young.

You asked a question and got an answer. No one was asking for a tear or have it both ways.

casually dropped that news about Phillips as a reply to Sheldon being bad.. classic
Phillips gone is old news . Wasn’t casually dropping anything just saying campo might be the best team with his departure and door is wide open.

Today was first I had heard about Phillips. Where did he jump ship to?
Might be old news for some, but evidently most of us aren’t in the know. Last I heard he didn’t play in one of their games, so I figured he may have been ill or injured (or lost in a corner with Kevin Love).
Where’s Waldo?
