According to a report in the L.A. Times, the huge L.A. Unified School District, the second-largest in the U.S., will not allow prep sports to start Dec. 14. A firm start-date is on hold.

This news is bad. People in this state at some point will rebel.
No one is going to rebel. California is doing remarkably well in combating the virus. We need to stay the course. If that means we have to wait until next year then we will just have to bite the bullet. I feel bad for the athletes, but there are more important things in life than sports. In fact one life is more important than sports.

All of this does beg the question: When will state authorities conclude that the virus is well under control and give the green light to athletics without caveats?

You know we have trouble when a governor (Cuomo in New York) states that, if his draconian lockdowns have prevented one death, the drastic exercise has been worth it. Sticking with that sort of logic, society may never get back on its collective feet.

Agreed, Short. I think we may see some athletes graduate early and the very small percentage of top prospects may move out of state, but as you stated there are so many important things than one year of sports. Earlier this week I was talking with my MVP from last basketball season and he is graduating this December as a Junior so he can get a jump on college courses. His parents were heart broken at no more games to watch, but ultimately it was his choice and I told him I support him and hope the best for a bright future.

The governor's kids are back in school, at least part-time. Oh, it's a private school. Not a surprise.

Here is a great example of the lock-down fatigue and people rebelling against the Governor and Health Dept. Bureaucrats. The IHSA which is the equivalent of the CIF in Illinois is openly defying the IL Governor. Note 35 States are playing Fall HS Sports on schedule and I have not heard of any resulting problems. Given this track record of success, families should revolt if CA does not allow HS sports to restart 12/15. Keeping kids out of HS sports has led to increases in other fatality risks like what happened to the Skyline football who was shot dead on the streets. Are his and other lives worth saving? Time to play some football!

California may not survive it if it does continue to open. People are leaving in droves and those left will be stuck with the bill and higher taxes.

On a stroll this morning, the local high school tennis courts were covered with at least 50 young people taking lessons and hacking away. But high school tennis is not permitted on those same courts. Something is way out of whack in these parts. The CIF could have allowed such sports as tennis, golf, swimming, cross-country and perhaps even baseball and softball during the fall. But no. Can't do it. Clubs and others can, though. Just plain weird.

Skyline in Oakland? Ummm he homicide rate in Oakland does not have much to do if anything with high school sports. The trigga gots no heart.

People will rebel. I saw Cuba under Castro and there are a lot of similarities to the current state leadership.

One more time: What are the magic pandemic metrics that signal the all-clear, freeing California from the shackles of draconian rules and restrictions?

Originally it was ensuring hospitals weren't overwhelmed and open ICU beds. Then it was 7 cases per 100k per county. Then it was shades of Purple, Red, Orange and Yellow. There are no metrics that have been held to in the past and so there are most likely none that will hold for the future.

CH...Does it go on for another year or two? Believe that all depends on one of two words. Vaccine. Or, fatigue.

Face masks are here to stay. Hate to say it but they are. This Christmas they will be stocking stuffers. I asked for a Ralph Lauren mask.
