Laney College on Last Chance U

Rough season but a great show this was my favorite season by far.....Realistically if they didn’t have a 5th string QB who was also their best WR for half the season they probably end up in the playoffs........6-4 wasn’t so bad for Laney for most of their history just shows how far Beam has gotten them.......really enjoyed this series and group of kids

Great HC in Beam imo compared to coach Brown.

Coach Beam looks to be all about the progam and a way of life, creating mentally tough young men through the game of football. Coach Beam seems to take pride as the underdog and teaching, rather than being the best recruiter and relying simply on talent, thus short cutting the players development at the risk of Wins and losses. Beam seams to be a great leader of young men who does not take the easy way out and just gather great talent, he is a builder of community and pride through hard work and accountability.

I have really enjoyed the episodes so far. It has also been nice to see some guys we have coached as well with Laney, ARC and Butte. Cant wait to watch more.

Gathering great talent is not the easy wait out either. You must be talented at something to get the talent to come to the middle of nowhere in Kansas. Especially when the whole country minus california is after the talent. The national JC game is not all that easy of a task.

I saw the Del Oro QB, Jarrett in the show? I was under the impression he was D1 material and only saw him as a back up??
While it is good to see him still playing, what has happened to him?

Imo, great arm strength, D1 size but he is not D1 rt now. The starter was from Rio Vista and he is not D1.

Cool to see former Heritage head coach Haaganson on there. I know Jarod Dexter the lineman from Heritage went there too and got a D1 scholarship. Eastern Michigan I think. Actually quite a few BVAL players on that roster with Dior. I noticed a few Pittsburg kids, Dorsey from Antioch and a Liberty player. I don’t know what the hell LMC is doing. They always end up with the scraps that the local JC’s don’t take out of Antioch and Brentwood. Any hoo, I really liked Last Chance U.

Just making sure I saw it correctly?
He was not number two either?
Just surprised after all the press he had during his HS days?

Look at Stone Smart, their offense was a juggernaut with him at the helm. Smart was one of the hardest Qb's for us to defend, and imo it was what he brought to the table that was the big difference with their offense. Smart was special and he had a hard time finding offers from lower level D1/FCS.

Imo, Jarret was a good hs qb on a great team. Smart was special and the reason why DO was elite his yrs at DO.

As far as hype,, Some players get extremely hyped for whatever reasons. We had a D-MVP that was the 3rd best D player on our team that yr. Hype and offers make stories and sell papers.

Not sure what was up?
I saw the no#1 QB go down and they brought in another guy.
The Del Oro kid was suited up???
Fully agree on the Smart kid....

Quite a change from previous Last Chance U seasons. All of the kids were pretty humble except for maybe Rejzohn Wright. They all seemed to be pretty solid people also. Previous seasons usually were full of guys who were kicked off of Power 5 schools with some literal ex-felons sprinkled in.

Smart was legit, any word on where he is now? Easy to get overhyped in HS when it's usually based on size, not on performance and making good decisions. And (some) coaches want to be a part of it all which doesn't help.

hence it was called last chance u.... a show with all well to do kids who only get in trouble for drink natty lights isnt worth production

Pretty entertaining show I watched all 8 episodes The main four guys wound up with predictable transfer opportunities that matched their skill sets, IMO. I figured Nu'u was an FCS guy and Wright was D1A. Because of his size and questionable coachability, I thought RJ Stern would land at D2. I really like the kid though and he has had a tough life. As far as Dior is concerned I think he did well to get a walk on spot at Hawaii due to his inconsistent hands.

He was injured, I thought. Carson still has a lot to learn but has the body and maybe the arm of a Sunday type QB.

This is the first season I have watched. I enjoyed how they went deep with the kids and their flaws and enjoyed seeing how Coach Beam operates. I like old school coaches so I was glad to see that it still works with these kids today. I think as long as kids know you care about them as individuals they will respond.
