Somewhat shockingly, it has been 65 years since a team from what is now the West Coast Conference won a Division I (or what was once called a "university division") NCAA hoops crown. That was USF in 1956 (after also winning in 1955). Top-ranked Gonzaga has a chance to capture the 2021 championship this year. The Bulldogs are unbeaten and give every indication that, finally, they are poised to annex a title which has eluded them (and their league) for decades. The WCC began life in 1953 as the California Basketball Association, the CBA. It morphed into the West Coast Athletic Conference, the WCAC, three years later. In 1989, it became the WCC. Over the many years, the league has included such schools as San Jose State, Fresno State, Nevada-Reno, UNLV and Seattle. They have departed. Go, 'Zags, the pandemic willing..
