Somewhat shockingly, it has been 65 years since a team from what is now the West Coast Conference won a Division I (or what was once called a "university division") NCAA hoops crown. That was USF in 1956 (after also winning in 1955). Top-ranked Gonzaga has a chance to capture the 2021 championship this year. The Bulldogs are unbeaten and give every indication that, finally, they are poised to annex a title which has eluded them (and their league) for decades. The WCC began life in 1953 as the California Basketball Association, the CBA. It morphed into the West Coast Athletic Conference, the WCAC, three years later. In 1989, it became the WCC. Over the many years, the league has included such schools as San Jose State, Fresno State, Nevada-Reno, UNLV and Seattle. They have departed. Go, 'Zags, the pandemic willing..

I feel like every year I say they are better. And this year, has really affirmed that statement. There is ZERO chance they lose to any WCC team. The biggest threat would be the 8 or 9 seed and then after that who knows.

Crazy thing....they are heavy favorites to land the no. 1 prospect in the 2021 class, Chet Holmgren. I could see Suggs staying another year to play with his former teammate.

Suggs is almost a certain one and done. I have not seen any recent mock drafts have him outside of the top half of the lottery.

They are the favorite to get Chet Holmgren and Hunter Sallis (5-star) also. If they only lose Kispert, Suggs, Cook and maybe Timme/Ayayi, the Zags will likely dominate again next year.

A USF-Zags matchup next season with incoming Dons freshman, 7-1 Mor Seck, potentially going up against Chet Holmgren would be a must see.

It’s not crazy because he’s not staying another year when he’s a top 5 pick, you think you jeopardize big boy money to play hoops with your friend? Smh

whoa... number prospect in the land going versus who? and where? boy you outta quit.. either chet is grossly overrated or mor is vastly underrated.... if not then it wont be much of a match up

They will be playing twice no matter. Never said the future Don is as good or vastly under rated. It’s good to see the Dons finally being competitive again.

Love Seck, but Holmgren is on another level in terms of time playing the game. People fail to forget with Seck that he literally just picked the game up a couple of years ago. I could see Seck def. taking his freshman year to refine his game, and learning a college basketball system.

I do agree though, the WCC is starting to get some consideration from players they never would have gotten looks from in the past.

My bad... those listed probably considered staying close to home or in California at least. I thought he meant like MCD AA types from around the country. It isnt far fetched for a kid from San Jose to go to Malibu. At least mid major in Ca you still get the weather, women and wd

Add Logan Johnson (Cincy transfer-St. Francis, MV) who is now at St. Mary's.
