Back in the day, the high school in Holllister was called Hollister High. Now, for some reason, its called San Benito High (which is the name of the county that the city known as Hollister is in.) Go figure. MudsBelieve it's actually Hollister High
Hi NorCalSportsFan. Back in the day, I think they called themselves the "Haybalers." Now, I guess they are the "Balers." It's probably something to do with texting and how everything is getting shortened these days. Next they will be calling themselves the "Alers" and soon after that, just the "Ale," probably when the drinking age is lowered to 16. MudsI know...it's strange...they will always be the Balers though.
Actually, I agree with you, Cal14, and anyone else concering this serious topic. In my day, the team and school was "Hollister." The "H" on the helmets and gear clearly stood for "Hollister" not some pussified cultural nod to a bygone day or era. Whenever I'm at the mall, with my wife, and some PYT walks by with her chest boldly and brazenly flourishing the garment manufacturer's brand name ("Hollister"), when my wife gives me a sharp elbow to the ribs, it's not because she caught my eyes buldging out of their sockets or me thinking of San Benito Hschool. MudsIf you go to any of their games, all of the gear that the fans have says "Hollister". Also, their away baseball jerseys say "Hollister". While the official name is "San Benito County High School", it was named when there was only one high school in the county. Now, there are two.
As for the nickname, it's still Haybalers. If not, then the "H" on their helmets truly is for Hollister.
Either way, I absolutely refuse to call them anything other than Hollister.
Good one, bella123. Like I always try to do, its good to bring-up and present hard facts on this website.Actually Abercrombie and Fitch threatened to sue local Hollister merchants for using the name Hollister. As retarded as it is, AF was threatening legal action beause they felt they owned the name Hollister complete with a made up storyline of a idyllic SoCal beach town and use of the name violated trade marks.
At the time legal experts said you cannot sue someone for using a geographical name and AF didn't have a case. Not realty sure what happened, I'm guessing AF backed down. Just plain ridiculous.

Good one, Cal14. I'd like to have been a fly in their car when they hit town and realized why the team's mascots are bunch of Hay Balers and not a bevy of buxom babes wearing tight tank tops with strategic parts of the letter "H" hiding strategtic parts of them that makes the babes buxom! MudsHow's this for a funny story...
At my previous company, the owner's son was a student at USC. He said he and a friend were driving up to see the Trojans play at Stanford when they noticed Hollister on the map (to which I grinned and thought "Uh-oh"). When they got there, they were surprised and disappointed at what it looked like. I started laughing and told him that had he asked me about it first, I would have directed them to Santa Cruz.
As for the store, I'm shocked and amazed that the location in Salinas didn't immediately go out of business. Why anyone from that town would wear something that said "Hollister" is completely beyond me.
