Maria Carrillo High School is looking for one JV team for our annual Jamboree scrimmage on Saturday, November 5th from 9-1pm. Cost is $100 to help cover the official’s fees. If interested, please contact coach Jeff Paul.

why are teams scrimmaging a WEEK after practice?

We use it as a part of our tryout process

Usually two reasons. Keep in mind you can't scrimmage once you've played a game of record and teams are having to play games in mid November due to lack of available dates in late November/December.

1) A team's schedule is so tight and limited in regard to available dates for games that they'd rather scrimmage early than lose the scrimmage altogether.
2) Their teams play year round (summer and club) and don't need the extra practice prior to competition. Or see the scrimmage as more productive than seeing each other that day.

For example, MCAL plays their league opener November 29th. Some coaches might want to get a game or two in prior to that so they need to schedule early and also want to use the scrimmages. MCAL plays 3 league games before New Years. That also eliminates 3 available non league dates. 16 league games also means 3 game weeks each week prior to playoffs.

My 2 cents. We've done it before. Not this year.
