CIF stated by November 1st they would have an update on masks for players and refs for basketball. Have not heard any news as we approach the start in 4 days.

Contra Costa County is dropping its indoor mask mandate Nov. 1, for whatever that's worth.

We were but then NCS stated we couldn't yet. A summary here from an Oct 26 memo:

"CIF memo has triggered discussions and meetings between county health departments and CDPH.
This resulted in an email from CDPH last night addressing the CIF Memo, stating “CDPH has not endorsed that statement” and “There has been no change in CDPH policy”.
The complete response from CDPH is in the email below.

There appears to be two issues.
1. The American Academy of Pediatrics only recognizes masks being a choking hazard for CIF sports of competitive cheer, gymnastics, wrestling and indoor aquatics.
There doesn’t appear to be any medical basis for identifying wearing masks as a choking hazard for participating in Volleyball or Basketball. County Health Depts will not recognize a choking hazard for Volleyball or Basketball.
2. The CDPH policy for K-12 guidance and wearing masks indoors is still in place. This guidance only allows an exemption for wearing masks to the CIF sports of competitive cheer, gymnastics, wrestling, and indoor aquatics. County Health Depts do not have the ability to approve less restrictive guidelines that could apply to Basketball and Volleyball."
